I think Im going crazy!

I am new to this group and I joined because I needed to find a group of people who could hopefully help me. I am 45 years old and I had a partial hystorectomy 10 years ago. Because I have no menstral cycle I cant be sure if and where I would be in perimenopause. For the last eight months or so I have grown increasingly angry, anxious, depressed and generally feel like Im going crazy. My thoughts can often be negitive or scarry, my vision has become very quickly terrible, blurry and myopic. I dont feel like im sleeping well at night, I get AWFUL anxiety all the time and I keep thinking that Im so old and that Im going to die soon. I had an event that I thought was a heart attack and so did the paramedic who took me to the hospital as my EKG showed elevated ST wave ( a heart blockage) but when they ran many many tests to include a nuclear stress test nothing cardiac was found.  Also I think every little pimple or headace is the big bad boogieman here to get me. I activly fear going to the doctor because Im terrified they will find something terribly wrong with me. Im exhausted all the time and like one of the othe rladies said, I often feel like running away. Out side of well controlled hypothyroid, a binign kidney cyct and fibromyalgia I dont have any other health issues (that I know of yet). Am I going crazy? or is everything Im feeling common to perimenopause?

    Hi Lori

You are not going crazy. It sounds like you are in perimenopause.

I'm 46 and have been going through it the last 4 years but the severe symptoms have been going on about 4 months.

Overnight I seemed to change into a different woman.

    Terrible anxiety,panic attacks (about 6 a day)

    Depression

    Feeling useless

(I think the anxiety and panic has eased slightly since on HRT patches )

    Not sleeping,panicky in bed

Hot sweats (these have eased on HRT )

Really bad acid reflux(this is really bad now)

    Severe headaches and tinitus

    Tingling body

    Tight chest and palpitations(very frightening)

    There are more.

Everyone on here are lovely. They really help you. They have me.

It is hard to believe hormones can do this to you isn't it.

I don't even want to go out and socialising now, even find it difficult to keep any appointments I've made.

Take care. You will come out of it eventually, that's what I keep telling myself xxx

You are not going crazy. You sound very perimenopausal to me and it can certainly make you think you are going crazy. I have everything you are talking about and a scare twice with my heart. Turned up to be low potassium but not other issues. I am aware and immediate panic at every little ache and pain. My anxiety is through the roof. Doom and gloom and negative thoughts, and a host of other stuff. So more than likely, you are in peri/meno.

Hi Lorin, I am also 45 and just had an ovary removed two weeks ago, and have had peri symptoms for 1.5 years.  My first visit to a doctor regarding possibly being in peri was due to having panic attacks for about 2-3 days straight and crying a lot.  My biggest trouble is with anxiety and I also have many of the other symptoms you describe.  I also understand the fear and health anxiety related to seeing doctors, as after I was told that I was in peri and should see a gyn, I ignored that advice initially but am now glad to be under the care of a good gyn.  It sounds like you're definitely in peri.  You will find these forums to be very helpful, many of us are going through this as you are.

I am glad to hear that what I am feeling seems to be normal for ladies of our age. I have been really upset and crying almost non stop because I couldnt understand what was wrong with me. I am a Psychology student and I couldnt pin any of my symptoms on anything Psychological and that seemed to scare me even more because there wasnt a "reason" for everything that Im feeling. I have combed through so many medical sites for "symptoms" of perimenopause and NOT ONE of them mentions anything like what we are experiencing. It makes a person feel like we are not normal. I do feel like a totally different person and it seemed to happen almost over night.

I know it seems far fetched but it's true. I felt the same way as you. It happened overnight and it made me feel even worse because I was constantly told I am fine when I knew I wasn't and felt that no one could tell me what was wrong. Until my aunt told me to research peri I was going downhill and going down fast. It's exhausting and frustrating. For sure your expierences are peri. The list of 66 symptoms should be 666 ha ha. But check it out. You will be surprised.

The list of 66 symptoms made me cry because it's a relief to see so many of the things that have been haunting me are on the list. I hope that it will help relieve at least some of the anxiety. Thank you all so very much. I'm so happy I found this forum.

My symptoms seemed to have come on overnight! I mean, I had some fatigue, maybe some gas and bloating, tummy trouble, but nothing like how I am now! I have so many symptoms of menopause, but they can also be medical, so I'm trying to figure it all out. Have been to several doctors, have many more to go, and had a lot of tests. A lot of us have gone through so much, feeling so,poorly, but at least we have each other to bounce ideas off of! Hope you feel better quick. Keep us posted.

I went to my doctor today and asked him to pull a hormone panel. I should have results in a couple days. It's a place to start. Since most of my issues are on the list of symptoms it makes me feel a bit less anxious.
