I think im going to die soon

Hi all,

I a m a 22 year old male who has had flutters and skipped beats since I was about 14 years old. I have had 2 echocardiograms, a stress test, 4 chest x-rays, and many EKGs. I got used to the flutters but a few days ago something happened that really terrified me. My heart felt like it stopped for a few seconds and this was followed by a racing heart and me feeling like I was completely going to pass out. I am convinced that it was a deadly arrythmia and I will die soon. My cardiologists have said that all of the tests that I have had in the past are normal but this feeling cannot be normal. What should I do?

Hi Albert, im sorry to hear youre suffering.

Ive been through the same symptoms you describe and know just how terrifying it is.

If youre really concerned and the symptoms are still happening go to the ER/doctors for an ECG, theyre really the only people who can help you out here.

You can also purchase personal ECG machines online, ive got a couple one thats linked to an app that stores readings. this is brilliant for showing your doctor/cardiologist.

In terms of immediate relief I've found magnesium helps. Get a high quality supplement and not one that contains magnesium oxide. magnesium citrate is particularly effective at calming my heart in an episode, 100-200mg a day seemed to help. obviously take with caution as with any supplement. Also make sure youre getting enough potassium, maybe an extra orange juice or banana a day could help. dont go overboard like i did and put your potassium too high though.

I've found certain positions exacerbate my arrhythmia, so experiment with how you sit/sleep.

recently I've been experiments with an anti inflammatory diet as i believe my arrhythmia is linked to a bowel issue i have. I've replaced butter and other animal fats with olive oil (not using butter on toast, take a few table spoons of unfiltered extra virgin olive oil a day) and have seen an improvement. generally try an eat as healthy as possible.

if you drink alcohol or caffeine stop immediately, these are both certain triggers for me and cutting them out has helped immensely. same goes for smoking.

i hope this small amount of info helps, please keep us updated kn how you go.

Hi Albert, sorry to hear of your trouble. Are you taking any drugs to help this?

There can be a lot of this kind of thing, and as scary as it is, it doesn't really mean much, the doctors are at least that much right. I've been chasing a variety of symptoms for over ten years now, and doctors have been no help - but I'm still here, with no worse events.
