I think it might be ibs?? BUT unsure

So I've been following this forum for a little and decided to post. So about 6 months ago I quit my job cause I hurt my knees. It was a valet job ran about 10 miles a day for 2 years, I'm a student so now I'm just in school full time. So after that it seemed that I had diarrhea for a little but I couldn't really remember and it was only after dinner and seemed to come from red meat. But when I ate red meat out at a restaurant it seemed fine. BUT fast foward to 2 weeks ago it become more pronounced so I went to the doctor and they said you just have a stomach bug, didn't run any tests. Other then he tapped my stomach and listened to my lungs. So that weekend I ate very little just like the BRAT diet. And it seemed to clear up for this past week I'd say I've had normal stools, it wasn't like hard but it wasn't watery or explosive, it was just pretty much normal it had shape and stuff. So now I ate some lasagna with red meat and 14 hours later when I woke up I had watery. So I got really scared, I was kind of nervous for the day idk if thats what did it. also I just broke up with my gf idk if that was the cause. But I also thought today that I've been eating sandwich for this week that Contain ham and bologna which is red meat and that hasn't had an effect on it so now Confused again. And I had spaghetti with red sauce 4 nights ago and was fine.

I'm not sure if it is something to be worried about because for 6 days I was normal and really happy, so maybe I should just stay away from heavy red meat for awhile?

I'm not really fatigued during the day, maybe a little but never need a nap. No blood in stool

Do you guys think it's ibs or stress?

My diet

Breakfast: eggs and fiber one bar

Lunch: usually a sandwich with wheat bread little mayo and chicken or ham lettuce and tomatos

Dinner: chicken, salad and veggies

Dessert: granaola bar or apple

Your symptoms sound like IBS.  Stay off red meat.  Sometimes a food that irritates you on one occasion, doesn't affect you at other times.  This is common with IBS.  IBS and stress are linked.  A single stressful incident can be enough to trigger it.  My IBS started after a series of stressful episodes.  However, see you doctorcfo tests to make sure other causes are ruled out.

    Hey steven,

IBS isn't something to necessarily be worried about. It's not even an illness or disease in itself, it's just a set of symptoms (either diarrhea or constipation, and gas or bloating, more than 3 days per month). It's very common and it doesn't necessarily mean there's anything wrong with your body.

The next issue is red meat. Meat isn't normally a problem for people with IBS, although people can have intolerances to just about anything. I really doubt it has anything to do with meat. That said, I'm vegan and really can't condone a red meat based diet, LOL. Just saying, I doubt it's because of meat, unless your meat is contaminated or improperly cooked.

Your diet sounds very loaded with gluten. Gluten is one of the main causes of IBS. I would take 2 weeks off gluten (completely), and see what happens with your guts. Gluten-free diets are seen by many as a fad, but look into the science behind it and you'll see that our guts can't handle that molecule very well. Even if you aren't in the 1% who have Celiac, you may be in the 10% (or more) who are intolerant to gluten. Another common one is dairy, but I'd start with cutting out gluten first. Don't buy "gluten free" processed foods, necessarily. Just find out what food doesn't have gluten (wheat, barley, oats, and rye) and eat that. Buy and make your own food. Focus on simple whole foods like salad (careful with the dressing ingredients), potatoes, veggies, fruit, eggs, brown rice, quinoa, chicken if you want meat, etc.

You will get enough fibre in that diet without having to eat "fiber bars". Sometimes too much fiber gives people diarrhea, anyway.

Drink lots of water. Make sure you're getting your vitamins and minerals, because IBS can cause loss of those nutrients.

Work on stress reduction techniques. You've been through a lot in the past year.

See your doctor again if you end up with blood in the toilet, or if your symtoms get progressively worse than they are. Otherwise, try to relax, see if you've got some food intolerances, and stay hydrated.

Some people with IBS can be intolerant to pork.  I wonder if it is a carbohydrate/protein problem.
