I think my posterior repair has failed

Hi all
Had rectocele surgery on 18 Nov and had a good recovery.
Was suppose to go for post op check today but was cancelled as my consultant was ill.
I still have a slight back wall bulge at the bottom end , feels spongy like before but when led down or standing it doesn't protrude on to the outside. !! However when I bare down it does drop slightly just below the perinium.
Feeling rather upset 😢😢

Sorry to read this Kar but it could still be some swelling from the surgery. However you aren't going to stop worrying until you see your consultant. Have they given you another date?

I don't think it's swelling matron. All seems to have healed well. Nearly 9 weeks on and have no discomfort having intercourse and bowel movements fine. It's no where near as bad as it was ... like I said just slight when baring down. I think I just need to work on pelvic floor excercises and get more weight off. As long as it's symptomatic I will just deal with it .
Thank u for your reply x

Definitely a lot better than before op and I don't feel like I have a tennis ball between my legs or a heavy achy feeling. Just aware just inside the entrance is a small spongy bulge and if I push down it comes down very slightly..!!! Thing is I lived with a rectocele for so many years (grade2) I'm not sure how is suppose to feel 😱
Thanks Steph for your kind words x

I feel I have been very careful not to overdo things but I do have "funny" bowels. Sometimes I can go 4 times a day . I don't think I have strained but sometimes feel the need to push down slightly.
I am going back to work on Monday . I'm an administrator so not to strenuous and I have a very understanding manager. I don't think being home all this time has done my sanity any good 😁😁

I'm keeping positive Matron as things loads better than before. Just to much time on my hands to worry about things oh and to have a good ole poke and prod 😱
My consultant only does one clinic a month in my town so not sure when appt will be now. His secretary said once he is well she will sort out another date and will be in touch x

I think because we forget what normal is after years of tennis balls....we tend to have a little feel around.......and are shocked!! I too could feel just inside my vagina a 'bulge' and on the other side another sort of softish thing...so I asked what it was when I saw my physio from urogynae (she needed to do an internal to see how good my 'grip' was) and I was pleased to note that the 'bulge' was so normal she had to look hard to know what I meant 😂😂😂 when I showed her she said .that's your vaginal wall' ....she confirmed there was no bulges nor prolapses anymore, and everything I felt was in fact quite normal . Am sure we get paranoid worrying in case anything has failed......all I can say regarding the BMs is that I cannot remember mine being so straight and so normal. What a pleasure.
I dont have to strain and indeed I wouldn't do so, but if I feel it needs a tiny push to empty fully, I do the tummy thing shown on a video where you sort of flatten your tummy without straining....and the BM gets that little help and slides out. I also part my legs and lean forward whilst arching my lower back as advised. It's amazing!
Am sure you are perfectly fine but as Matron said, you won't rest until you get it checked. Until then, be positive and realize that everything now is working perfectly well which shows the repair has been successful. 🤗

Carole reading your reply it's as if I typed it myself! My 'tennis ball' was more like a babies head and your right that we forget what normal is. I realise now that I'd had my rectocele a lot longer than I though. I too have a small spongy protrusion but now I'm confident that it's normal at 9 weeks post op.

Thanks Carol.
What video shows the "tummy thing" ?
Now u say this my prolapse bulge was hard not spongy soft !! So maybe it's normal what I am feeling . Think my sanity had been effected since being off work . I have got quite low. The one thing that has continued is lower back pain. My left hip was definitely effected during the op whilst my legs were in stirrups. I think lack of exercise and sitting around to much has not helped. I suppose ligaments will be weak for some time until I start to do more exercise to strengthen them x

i hope the link comes out correctly. I think we do tend to focus on all these strange bits and pieces.......I also had really bad lower back pain when I started to do more walking but thankfully this does go in time. Yesterday I went for a walk before breakfast and again went out in the afternoon and I felt my lower back hurting so I knew I had overdone it! It does pass though.
I am confident this won't carry on forever.
For me at this stage ( I am 4 months 2 weeks) I can't get over the strange odour coming from the vagina. I wash with 'Simple' non perfumed soap but that strange smell lurks whereas before my op it was okay. It's not offensive, but it is strange. I have a feeling this will never go.
Anyone know why ? Maybe because it has been interfered with and had stitches ......all chemical things etc.
