I think my Thyroid is over medicated

Posted , 4 users are following.

My thyroid went off 4 months ago . I was taking 112 of levo. Dr. Raised to 125, started to get anxiety and insomnia she sent me to a endocr. Dr. She lowered to 112 then to 100. Still have symptoms and now Dr. Testing blood again. How long does it take levels to lower ? I think she will lower them again. I need relief soon.

well the testing and adjusting goes on until you are on the right dose. It cannot be done too quickly

The Levo doesn’t work for a lot of people.

you say your thyroid "went off 4 months ago" what do you mean by this exactly ? Have you been  hypothyroid  for a long time ? Are you saying that  you felt  something else was wrong ?

Been hypo for years but 4 months again my tsh spiked and found out I was hashi. Had insomnia ever since Dr. Increase meds to 125 to lower tsh. Was Lowered to 112 and now 100. Labs today show tsh .19, t4 1.4, t3 86 and t3 free 3.0. Dr says normal but still can not sleep

well I can only think you must be in USA. I am in UK. I  say this because there is such a difference in the range used there to here, and so it is  impossible for me to compare results.   i.e. (normal Range  TSH (0.270-4.2) T4 (12-22). It is indeed a minefield. All thyroid doses do take some time to stabilize things so I hope you can get sorted out as you areso obviously in need of help

Yup, we’re prettt messed up in the US. The docs generally follow whatever the labs show for a range. However labs don’t follow the national guidelines. Sort of nuts, really. Turns out national guidelines for TSH top out at 3, but the labs have much broader ranges.

Honestly, I don’t much trust the labs here. There are only a couple of them do they have a virtual monopoly, and wind up running medicine based on what tests they offer.

the  older I get the more convinced I am that often the patient  knows more than they do. Following these forums is an eye opener . The individual  involved is now  forced to do his /her own research in order to try to discover  exactly what is happening to the body as a result of malfunctioning thyroid.I am 78 and after 25 years of being hypothyroid   I am now hyperthyroid and it was dogged  delving and getting another opinion  which found that out. Sadly I think you have to get another opinion

I agree with you I am older too and so many things can affect your levels.. Even taking supplements can have an effect I have found I always check before I take anything different.  Different doctors have different ideas of normal range..

    How old are you??

its difficult to get the right level but you have to give it time to adjust to your body requirements. Have you any heart palpitations - they are always a sign of too much thyroxine.

I would say the anxiety is more likely to be you are too low and if you start worrying about not feeling right you will make yourself worse. I've been there and know you need to ride it out over a few weeks and see then how you feel..

See what endocr suggests and leave it like that for a few weeks to see if you start to feel better..

let us know how you get on.
