I took 5mg Citalopram, and felt euphoric almost. Any similar experiences?

I was prescribed Citalopram early this year. I had 10mg tablets and decided to only take 5mg because I'm very sensitive to medications.

I took this dose right before bed because I knew I'd make myself anxious if I took it while awake. After falling asleep, I woke up a bit later feeling strange. Almost euphoric. I had forgotten I took the 5mg tablet initially, so I don't think I was having a placebo issue.

Once I remembered the pill I took, I pretty much had a panic attack over the side effect. So I didn't consider taking another dose until now, months later.

I'm just having intense anxiety over taking this medication again. Has anyone else had similar symptoms? Or maybe share some success stories.

It's just strange that I reacted so much to such a small dose. It's really silly that I'm having anxiety over taking an anxiety medication. Haha yikes.

I guess I shouldn't take really low doses then since it seems the side effects will happen regardless. So I'm just gonna power through.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope the medication is working well for you.

Hi Carmen I was prescribed 10mg of Citalopram 5 weeks ago and was scareddo only took 5mg and felt a bit sick and tired but decided to go to 10mg the next night as I didn't want to prolong side affects. The next 6 days my anxiety was much worse then settled down then o got depressed and bad thoughts and the unreal feeling but kept going for walks and keeping busy and 3 weeks to now I've felt much better and the last week I just go about everyday things I do think about my anxiety now and again but I'm feeling the best I've felt in months and do have the odd blip but I just stay positive and I'm looking for a part time job now as I had to give up my full time job due to dress etc, stick with it Carmen you will feel better in a bit of time

Yeah maybe I'll just go for the whole 10mg and power through it. I think reading negative reviews of this drug gave me anxiety. It's really difficult that medicine that will make us feel better also makes us feel worse in the short term! Best of luck on your job search!

You need to give the medication time to work, also take the recommended dose.

At this time you have just started taking the medication and are taking taking it at night will help you sleep, hopefully. You will suffer side effects, possibly and your GP should have told you of the the most common effects, so you are forewarned.

Anticipate eventually you will hoepfully feel less anxious in the puture, medications take time and you need to accept the negatives to reach all the positives. Live with the medication for at least a month and then discuss how you are getting on.

Most medications do have some forms of side effect allow some time for those to disappear if you look in the box there will be a leaflet read that, it will help you understand your medication.

Thank you for your advice. I'm gonna start the recommended 10mg and see how it goes. No pain, no gain.

I think i was just thrown off because my doctor never discussed side effects with me. In the process of getting a new GP though.

Read the instructions with your medications, it is a sheet of paper.

Sometimes you may suffer som slight to moderate side affects these are normal, so if that happens give the drug time to work, you will be ok

      Always around

      Keep a hold
