I 've been diagnosed with subclinical hyperthyroidism

Hello everyone,  I don't know if anyone of you has a similar condition. Actually I was suffering from weakness of bones and loss of weight. After I performed the blood tests,  the result was low tsh (0.2), but normal Free t3 and t4!! Inaddition,  the ultrasound revealed that my thyroid gland is large. The doctor said this is subclinical Graves. However,  I am worried about this since I wasn't that convinced with this,  so I'd like to hear from you if you have similar condition or even any idea about what is called subclinical hyperthyroidism.

Thanks in advance!

I too have received the same diagnosis. I saw an endocrine surgeon  'specialist' yesterday with an extraordinarily lack of respect, his lack of empathy not to mention his cold ,callous attitude and refusal to acknoweledge that it is in fact MANDATORY to treat subclinical hyperthyroidism in people aged 65 plus especially if they also have co morbidities such as osteoporosis and/or cardiac diseases.

How does one know in advance what a doctors attitude is going to be.

How does one avoid being referred to someone who basically appears not to be kept updated despit it being a requirement to maintein registration with the GMC?

Why is England so backward in endocrinology thyroid disorders care ?

      Hi Jean

Perhaps you can ask for a second opinion from a different consultant? I have private healthcare treatment and am not receiving treatment but in my case I prefer not to. If I take meds to correct my TSH then I am likely to go hypo until a balance can be found. That said, I don't really know what the treatment is, do you know any more?

    Hi there,

I have subclinical hyperthyroidism for almost 9 years now. But i have no symptoms such as tremors, or hair fall or any other. I am not on any treatment and the doctor i visited said i dont need to and i keep monitoring my levels every 6 months to one year

Does anyone out there have this condition.Im glad im not traking any medication for the same, but id like to be doubly sure that it is okay to not be treated.

Same thing with me. I have no symptoms and I am not in any medication.

I am going to see my doctor next week.

My TSH levels is 0.22 with normal T3 T4.

      What is your TSH level?

      Hi Christine

I’m also subclinical hyperthyroid for many years. With no symptoms. TSH low, normal t3 and t4.

No medication. But I’m concerned about having low tsh levels for so long

Did you get your issue resolved?

I believe the graying is part of graves...my grandmother went grey in her 20's and so did I.....I read somewhere about this connection...

      Hello Rose

There seems to be a lot of anecdotal literature on the web about the premature greying and graves connection but the doctors seem less clued up about it. I am certain it's the reason for my premature greying. I would like to ask you whether you have undergone any treatment for yours and if so, has it reversed the greying? Thank you!

      Hi Katie...

Has anyone tried the natural treatments?  I think its bunglweed (for thyroid) and mothersworth.(for papulations)..

Thanks Rose. My mum stopped dyeing hers around 50, she's all white and looks wonderful. Perhaps I should embrace it but at 30 it's a little daunting :-)

I am going to look into the natural treatments....

I am in the same boat as you with the thyroid...its only my TSH that is off now...my T3 T4 have returned to normal range without medication...the only medication the doctor will prescribe is the beta blocer for the heart papulations...otherwise she says I should not have any systems..as subclinical hyper have none...but, I have stomach issues....and have gone gluten and sugar free...I do feel better...

    Hello all

I've just picked up my 3 month results and wanted to share them with you. I'm pretty confused...

My TSH is now within the normal range (it was always around 0.01)

My T3 and T4 are within normal range (they have consistently been within range)

My TSH antibodies continue to be way too high

Previously my diagnosis was subclinical hyperthyroidism (Graves) yet the current results all point towards hypothyroidism. I am seeing the endocrinologist next week.

has anyone experienced such a change...?

By the way, I have not been taken any medication since my diagnosis over 1 year ago. Perhaps I should be, but the doctor has always said not because my T3 and T4 are normal. I am getting more paranoid and anxious about the whole thing however. I feel more anxious in myself and am not sure how much that is done to personal circumstances or the imbalances in my body sad

I don't know what it 'normal' feels like now.  Can anyone relate to that?!

Hi katie i was reading about your thyroid condition and i want to know how uv been doing.

I did a blood test like 2 years ago which showed that my TSH level was 0.21 (below the normal range)

2 years have passed and i haven't taken the test again (im not a big fan of doctors and hospitals) but ive been experiencing the following symptoms

      Weight loss

      Fatigue

      Memory loss

      Stress

      Late period

      Mood swings

      Night sweats

      Increased urination

I wanted to ask you if you had some vertical lines or ridges on your fingerprints. I guess its an additonal symptom of this condition.

My family think im overreacting but i know that something is not okay.

I should take the test again and would hope to find a reply from your side

      Hi Jess

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

I have not taken another test since my last post, my next test is due in March. I visited my endocrinologist after receiving the last results and the conversation was prerry much the same. She said it was good that my TSH was within range but that I would always have Graves disease and TSH would always fluctuate.

The last month or so I've noticed my symptoms more frequently, but also have the sense that all my symptoms could be explained by other factors too, if that makes sense.

I have minor ridges on my fingers, they've been ore prominent in the past but I think i've always had them.

I have also experienced all of the symptoms on your list. Right now the worst for me is the lack of motivation, inability to focus, brain fog, irratiblity, anxiety and fluttery heart.

I would definitely recommend you going for another test and also asking for them to test antibodies to find the cause of the low TSH. It could be graves disease for example. Don't ignore it. It's a funny illness because the changes happen subtlely over time and you don't really look ill to other people, so I think people don't really understand it. I just know that I don't feel myself and that makes me so sad.

As regards treatment, I still don't take medication and don't really want to, but if it were to make me feel like me again, it's probably worth it.

Go for your test, I'd be interested to hear how it goes.
