I feel I have to have a drink to function. I never use to drink in the house but for the last couple of years I'm drinking more and more. Really struggling

Well then if it's American mumbo jumbo than I am one of those Americans. I have been following TSM for about half a year now seriously and went from 20 plus shots of vodka A-day to now average 2 units a week on the weekend with some weeks of complete abstinence. I was a functioning alcoholic who had to drink all day and all night even while at work to get through the day and if I did not have it I would have massive withdrawals. This method is not just for my extreme case but for anyone who would like to change their alcoholic changed brain. I never thought I could be the type of person who could just go out with my wife and have a drink and then go home and go to sleep but I am now. I literally might have one beer Friday night and 1 beer Saturday night and then I don't even think about it for the whole rest of the week . Don't let the difficulties of acquiring this medication stop you. Fortunately for me in America it was extremely easy and cheap to be prescribed Naltrexone. I wish it were so in the UK . Don't give up.

Wonderful!  Well done on taking that leap and trying something that is so very much against what many people involved in the recovery industry perceive as just an 'excuse to drink'.  I tried it simply because I was out of options - I had tried everything else or well over 10 years.

Many of us know more about it than the very people who are supposed to be employed to help us find recovery.

I wish I had been told about it years earlier, and I could've saved years of struggling and pain, not just for me, but or my loved ones too.

I couldn't agree with you more. I was about to lose my wife and job but she stuck with me and ADEfree on this forum helped me find a doctor. It changed my life. Your responses to everyone on this forum are great as is your help to find them assistance in their area. I was told over and over that I had a character flaw and I was weak. That I was letting everyone down around me while feeding me the same garbage. I want people to know there is hope and you can change. I lost 40 lbs. And thank everyday I am alive. Sorry I'm rambling but I get excited sometimes when I talk about this.

Great to read your post and  well done you ! .I too am one  whose drinking has completely  reformed with TSM. I  am several months into the process and I really don't  think much about alcohol anymore, all that focus on the next drink and the next drink has now left me. Its a fantastic feeling , sometimes  I can hardly believe that I have arrived  at this place. I rarely drink these days  and if I do I only  have 2 drinks and that's enough for me ! The second one usually goes unfinished.Unlike the old days when I picked up that drink with the best will in the world I was completely finished lol. No laughing matter though.

The support and guidance on here  from so many  here has been fantasitic and I will be forever thankful

That's awesome. I love to hear success stories. It shows people that things can change for the better and that we are not all hopeless. Keep up the great work and enjoy your new life like I am.

Danny - don't lose this family - they are the best - tell it like it is without scaring the pants off you - just give you hope to go for it.  I am down from 20 units a night to 2 Monday to Friday.  Feel so much better and look it.  My doc had never heard of TSM and said she did not like the sound of it!  Take guidance off here, they know more than your doc will ever know and can guide you to a new you.

Hello Gwennie this is such a fantastic achievement to cut right back to this weeny diddly amount and the thing is you sound sound such a happy bunny now ! It makes me feel really happy to read this . Its just so great to leave that despair behind us isnt it but we know oh yes we know we must always work at it but thats ok too .I can't just take a pill and hope for the best , I have to work with it although its much easier now time has run on . Keep going girl, you have used mindfulness to achieve what you wanted and boy its worked ! Yippeee 😄

My GP too had never heard of TSM , like most couldnt prescribe but was very interested and supportive. That was a bonus at least ! Couldnt say the same for the guys at ARC who I naively expected a lot from at the time and got nothing! But hey ho x

Hi there Nuttie Natti - good to hear from you.  Yes I am doing really good - but then I am stubborn and if I am told that it cannot be done - I will god dam make sure I do it lol lol.  And I have.  I feel sooo much better.  Last night being Saturday - I would normally have a bottle to give me some sleep - but I did not want to spoil my 2 units, so I stuck with 2 units.  Well I was awake all night long as  per - feel sleepy today but well chuffed and weird as it may sound albeit real tired - feel blooming great.  Done my run, lifted a couple of weights.  Went off at 9am shopping in the jeep with radio blasting (no way would this happen normally after a Saturday night session as scared of being over the limit) what is not to love.   I think I have got this.  My thanks to all on here for their support.

And thank you my friend Nat - always there - keep going yourself girl - we are getting there and living longer - yesssssss smile smile smile x
