I've been having panic attacks a lot recently... advice needed...

I've been having panic attacks a lot recently and finally went to the doctors about it yesterday. I'm starting counselling of some sort on Thursday but my panic attacks/anxiety tend to become worse at night when I'm laid in bed worrying about things. I don't want to feel like this constantly and anything to help between now and Thursday would be useful..

    Hey claire,

I had very similar experiences when i first developed anxeity, and the best thing that worked out for me as a coping stragegy was to just lay down in a dark room, no tv, no sound, and just relax and remind yourself that this is only anxiety. Try not to let your mind wander.

Hope this helps for now until you are in councelling.

      Hi Ryan

Thanks for your reply, I try to relax but my mind just goes back to worrying about something then I get really freaked out and have to have a walk round to try and get out of the attack. I didn't used to be like this its come on out of nowhere and its now everyday.

Yeah I experienced the exact same thing, with the need to get up and walk, and also for the need to go for a walk.

Another suggestion would be to do just that, go for a walk, distract yourself. The best way to get over anxiety is to not let it take you out of your daily activities, in other words, to sit through one and let it pass without acting on it. This is a lot more easy to say than do, trust me i know :P But it definitially was one of the main things i needed to get over my anxiety in the end.

      Hope this helps again, :P

one thing which helps me sleep is to have the tv or something else on as a slight distraction. something u know well and that wont hold ure interest necessarily, just some background noise
