I've been having sharp pains in my lower abdominal after a colonoscopy I had 2 days ago

Hi smile

I had a colonoscopy on Friday 13th Feb and have been experiencing pain in my lower abdominal for 2 days now.

The pain is sharp like someone is pinching me in both the left and right of my lower abdominal.

During my colonoscopy the doctor said my colon was twisted and it caused quite a struggle but they still managed to finish. He also said my colon appeared normal inside but they took around 4 biopsies.

Does anyone know why I have this pain or has anyone experienced this before?

And also should I be worried about the twisted colon?

    Hi Gracie

this is quite normal because of the actual procedure, also because of the biopsies. I felt I'd been kicked by a horse for good few days. If pain becomes unbearable get it checked out, of course. Considering you have a twisted bowel you are lucky they managed to complete it, I've had two abandoned after only going 14inches. Told to have no more. Hope you feel better soon. Take care.

Thanks for your reply smile I did wonder if it was because of the biopsies but I just kept reading that you shouldnt have any pain afterwards so was just wondering if other people have experienced this

Did you have to have a scan or anything on your twisted bowel or is this a common thing?

Don't know how common it is, but no scan or anything, just the way it is. A colonoscopy for me is agonising , so can't have anymore. It totally traumatised me! Do can't say I'm sorry!!

Considering you have a twisted colon you were very lucky not to have experienced severe pain during the procedure. I would think it quite normal to feel some discomfort after it but would certainly ring them up to put your mind at rest. I wouldn't be worried about the twisted colon providing your motions are normal

Thanks for you reply. I did experience a lot of serere pain during and i also wondered if thats why i have the pain now.

I have had a change in movement thats why I had the colonoscopy, do you know if that could be linked then?

I would think if you had a twisted colon it wouldn't suddenly happen. However that's only my opinion.  My movement hadn't changed but there was blood and I did have a polyp removed on my 1st procedure which wasn't anywhere near as bad as my last one (5year follow up) Then I was told I had twists and maybe even an inflamed part

Hi Christina, I know it was spooky to be on that date.

Try not to worry, I tried to go in with an open mind cos my dad had one without any sedation or anything and it was pain free. I think mine was only painful because of my twisted colon...I guess everyone's experience is different. I had sedation and also asked for gas and air.

I hope it goes well you for smile
