I’ve been on 60mg. Fluoxetine for 4 years .. I desperately want to come off !

i have been on 60mg of fluoxetine for around 4 years i desperately w t to come off them now but no-one around me agrees on my decision

    Hi Haley i was on them for 10 years and citalapram before i am not a doctor you do what feel right for you talk with your doctor .But you should realy wien yourself off slowy the prosess is very slow .i came straight off with terrible side affects took i would say a year to feel somewhat normal.good luck

      hi Greg , thank you for your reply .. did you do a gradual decrease over the year ? also how are you after? still well i hope ! i have done 2 weeks at lowering my dose and for the past 3 days no dose at all .. i understand it takes a while to leave your system ? Having no emotions is really the motivation .. .. thank you again H

      Hi haley know i came straight off which is not the right thing to do terrible side effects .i would not say i am better but the longer your on them i found they dont work the same anyway.i try deal with it in other ways excersise ect.But everyone is differant .but yes talk with doctor to try decrease slowly will take long time good luck

    I hope all is well. 60mg is certainly a heavy dose and four years is quite a bit of time. Is there a particular reason you want to discontinue the medication? I would consult your doctor but I would think the safest way would be to taper off. Maybe drop it to 50 or 40 for a few weeks and see how you feel. I would certainly consult your doctor though.

      hello Albert , thank you for the reply .. altogether i have been on them for 8 years i had a little break in between each 4 years for only a couple of months and relapsed very badly .. getting fed up with feeling numb and gained so much weight feel so empty .. so i have started to come off not telling anyone in my circle , my decision ..
