I’ve been on Citalopram for 5 months, feeling rubbish

Hi everyone

I’ve read some really useful and supportive posts on here about Citalopram that have really helped me over the past few months. I started on 10mg 5 months ago and went to 20mg after a few weeks.

My anxiety came back with a vengeance so I went up again to 30mg nearly two weeks ago. Since then I’ve felt so rubbish. It’s taken the edge off my anxiety but I have no motivation to do anything or go outside even on sunny days. I just want to stay in my house and have to really force myself to do the things I previously enjoyed like going to the gym. I’m physically knackered and so tired in the mornings I can barely function for a few hours.

I guess I’m just looking for some reassurance. My GP wants me to stick with it as I saw some benefits initially but the lack of energy and generally feeling “out of it” is getting a bit much.

Hi! Sorry you're feeling this way. i would say definitely listen to your GP as 2 weeks is a very short time on that dose and it will take a while for them to work. maybe after a month or so if

you're not feeling better then go back to the GP but I'm sure you will because its already taken the edge off your anxiety.

starting a new dose is like starting all over.

pick a dose and stick to it for 12 weeks.
