It's just ruddy amazing. There are all these reports on forums about people with consistently similar side effects of this and other drugs and the medics ignore them.  The weight of evidence is apparently crushing, but when you pitch up to see the doc, he sits there and picks his nose, shrugs and says you'd better have an MRI scan or 7 day monitor, or even a phsycology report. All time wasting and resource wasting, when they must KNOW the bloody answer. Who are the daft ones? Them for prescribing the stuff, or us for going along with it?

I googled it recently wanting to fe forewarned on what they might prescribe me as an alternative. It seemed possibly worse. One problem is if you are older some should not be prescribed or they effect you more.

HI Sue, Yes I was on digoxin for a couple of months last year, the bisoprolol just wasn't enough to control the rate/rhythm so the doc gave me 2.5mg and it helped quite a lot. I had to stop it just before I had the cardioversion. Not had it since.

How are you getting on now? I hope you have faired better than

me; as I know some people have.

I started bisop. a month ago and increased to 5mgms for my

A Fib. I'm told that this may have to be increased even more.

It has totally destroyed my life. Breathless, lightheaded, nausea

and generally unwell. I sleep with 3 pillows because of pressure

in my chest if I lie down.

    What to do?

Good afternoon one and all.  Latest news is, it looks like i've been having TIA's or mini strokes. I had a full stroke 9 years ago, and don't want another, thanks. Having the one bu**ered me up. Our doc has got me into the TIA clinic tomorrow, so will know more then.  Not at all sure if they are going to increase my Bisoprolol dose from the present 1.25, but it seems likely they will try.  I will fight like hell to get an alternative.  Problem for me is that my systolic is in the high range but diastolic is low!  Can the grim reaper be far away?

I'm relieved to have read all the replies! I have stable angina and among the various drugs I'm on is Bisoprolol. The 1.25 dose was incredible and I felt a lot better in just a couple of days. However the dose has been regularly increased and earlier this week it was put up to 7.5mgs with an expected increase again to 10mgs next week. I feel awful at the moment! Tired, lightheaded, dizzy on the odd occassion and just feel out of touch! I've also had a slight increase in the amount of chest pain, never really a problem but it's concerning! Has anyone else noticed increased chest pain? I'm hoping these side-effects go very soon as it's like wading through treacle at the moment!

Well, I've got to eat my word because I have just had a session in the TIA clinic in the hospital. I have to say that they were brilliant. They couldn't tell me exactly what I did have, but it WASN'T tia. I arrived at 1.30pm and had BP taken, CT scan, ECG and consultation with a specialist. I was out by 4.00pm. Job done. Not TIA, go away. Charming staff, speedy service, faith in NHS restored.
