I've been taking 5mg Amlodipine for 8 days. Is it safe to stop?

My BP has always been a bit high but when the doctor took it last Monday he said it was very high and prescribed 5mg Amlodipine. I came home and checked on my machine and it was 200//105. I've been checking daily and even before the med could have worked, it was down to 157/101 and similar until last reading today is138/90.

I don't want to take these tablets and have advice that Hawthorn and Garlic tincture is very good. I am also taking turmeric 3x3a day.

I have to have a 24 hr monitor soon.

Do you think I should stop the Amlodipine now before I get 'hooked' or keep taking it until the tests are done?

Thanks for any help, Denise

Hi there - Just yesterday I was @ my Dr’s office telling her about all the side effects that I have battled thru since stopping Amlodipine.  I told her that she should stop prescribing this poison to patients & she stopped me short & said “Amlodipine works for many people, you Unfortunately were one of the ones that had a sensitivity to it.”  I was on it for 5 years & probably didn’t start having side effects for about a year into it.  It did in fact bring down my b/p.  I know people who have been on it & had no problem, so I suppose you can try it & see if it works for you.  Also, there are many alternative things to take, beet juice, hibiscus tea, magnesium to name a few.  I personally think that drinking tons of water, reducing stress, eating a “clean” diet & of course exercise is key...problem is, it takes a lot of time & patience to achieve that. Also, you may want to ask your Dr to just put you on a less controversial RX & see how it goes. Good Luck to you -

You didn't say, but I would think the reason you are being hooked up to a monitor should be a part of this discussion. For instance, when was that decision made (before or after  the Amlodipine) and why was it made?
