I've had a plaster ankle cast for 1 week and a half and the knee above my cast pops and hurts.

I've looked all over the internet but I haven't found anything on this. A week and a half ago I got a tiny fracture on my fibula after falling on the street while running. I've been doing some physical exercise (mostly upper body and stuff on my good leg) but all in all I'm either in my bed laying down with my ankle and knee propped on pillows or sitting up with my ankle propped up and something under my knee. I get around mostly on my office chair with my leg stretched out in front of me, my quad and knee holding up the weight from the cast so I can avoid my cast bumping against the ground and bearing weight on it, and I'm always holding up my leg up like this, my quad and knee doing the work. For a couple of days now my knee has been popping every time I stretch it out and it's starting to hurt, and my quad is a little sore here and there. I cant stretch out my leg without it hurting. I'm guessing it hurts from the extra weight or...? Please help. Right now I'm icing my knee and I took ibuprofen but I really can't do much if I don't know why it hurts in the first place. At this rate by the time they take my cast off I won't be able to use my knee 😛
