I’ve had blepharitis for three months. It’s not getting better

I went to the optician with sore eyes and was told that I have meibomian gland dysfunction and posterior blepharitis . Having for several months obediently tried the recommended twice daily eyelid heat treatment plus eyelid massage and lash cleansing treatments I am no better than I was . Eyedrops soothe but do not cure the disorder. Am I stuck with this? I am 66

The answer is probably yes. This is something suffered by thousands of people...including me. First diagnosed 15 years ago. I think I have tried everything on the market and now just use Simple Eye ointment every night, on prescription from the doctor. I also bought wraparound polarised sunglasses as my eyes were constantly irritated by breezes, air conditioning and just generally air flowing over them. each suffere is different and you have to keep trying all the things you can buy OTC until something helps you. I would stop the lash cleaning and massage and heat treatment . Try using a cotton bud dipped in vaseline to gently clean your eyelid rims then Put in your eyedrops. I have sent you a private message.

    Dear fm,

To encourage you I have killed Blepharitis 2 times 5 years apart. The reason it came back was I was not removing all of it.

I used the Wet Ones, antibacterial hand wipes bought in the US , which have Benzethonium Chloride in them.

It did take over 3 months to kill it. If you are not allergic to detergents, fabric softeners, aloe or lanolin and you do not have sensitive skin then you could try them.

I am older too so know this is hard.

I wore mascara when I was killing it too. That involves using throw away mascara wands. If you need that info let me know.

The first week I used them about 4 times a day as I could not stand the itching (my symptoms). I then went down to 3 times for about a month then the last couple of months I used the wipes only 2 times a day and that is not hard to do.

Let me know if you would like the info on this,
