Hi, I have had OLP for a few years now, I notice a number of people have a problem with their toothpaste. I have been using Oranurse for the last couple of years, no problem any more with sensitivity, you can google it and may end up buying it off of e bay. I have had curries, spicy foods, alcohol, crusty breads and chips and thought I was ok, the truth is I was'nt ok, I would like to point out that I had these in moderation not regular binges. I have now got early stage mouth cancer so I have a bit of advice for people who have had OLP for a while, if you don't want the problem to get worse then leave those things alone.

Hi Richard,I have had OLP for seemingly all my adult life.I am now 72. If we are to believe that 1 in 2 will develop C at some stage in our lives, then that could be what we have to look into. Poor you. I hope that it can be treated .

I have never had problems eating spicy....I just dislike it. BUT I am gluten free .I was suffering with horrendous mouth ulcers. not just one or two, but my entire mouth was raw. At the MAx fac QA Hospital I was eventually told to avoid BROW foods. Barley Rye Oats and Wheat. I did and it stopped the agonising ulceration, and slowed down the belly pains too.Good luck

      Dear gully,

      Greetings!

      Very interesting advice.

That's a huge step avoiding all BROW.

I'd like to try that. I rarely if ever eat Barley. But, I regularly eat the ROW portions.

      Again, thanks.

Well, In a  week my annual check up will get some interest going. I went to collect my prescription from the surgery and was met with...."ah ,birthday month! So blood tests and review " how magnificent!!Lets hope something can be done. I never realised how many of us suffer with this dratted series of eruptions.

sorry for your bad news!  What do they do for early stage mouth cancer?  Excision? Sounds uncomfortable, sending good wishes your way.  Is it under your tongue?  I read that happens sometimes with olp.  I am on steroids for olp now which carries its own risk for cancers, not sure what course to take...  It is about time someone came up with some answers for us!  I doubt that there is even much research going on as it is not thought of as a killer, just something we need to live with, YUK!  Take care, please post on how you are doing ...

Wondering what changes did you notice before the diognosis and how often where you consulting a specialist. Will pray for your speedy recovery.

thanks for the update. My OLP was just mildly bothersome until the last six months. The steriod gel no longer taps it back now on one side I have a very painful ulcer liker spot. I went to my oral surgeon and my GP sent me to a dermatologist and I am waiting on dental allergy testing. But it just keeps gettng worse now

Hello Donna, mine got worse on the right side of my mouth, not sure why you're seeing a Dermatologist, I would have thought you would see someone in Maxillo Facial maybe then an oncologist, I had similar to you that's why I made my comments. Good luck. Richard

      Hey Richard,

What kind of physical changes did you see? Was it on your tongue?

Why did they do all that for the early stage?

Hello John, I had a number of white lesions around my gums by the teeth and also inside my cheeks as well as the tongue. That all took place over a 3 year period. I've since had 6 ops in my mouth over a 5 month period. The LP developed into oral cancer.
