I've heard of some people who used 'Alloprinol' successfully for PMR

Have any of you heard of 'Alloprinol' being used successfully to reduce symptoms for PMR.  A friend recently told she knows of several people who found it very helpful.  I googled it and it says it is used to treat gout so I wonder about its applicability here. I'd be interested in any comments about this.

Going back toeonard12916's original enquiry, could there not be a connection between gout and PMR as both being illnesses of the immune system? I have had gout for many years and have been taking a large dose of allopurinal for all that time. I do not believe it has affected my PMR and GCA in any way either positively or negatively.

Incidentally I am pure Manx from many generations back (actually related to Fletcher Christian!), so there is undoubtedly loads of Viking blood in me, although I am not aware of other cases of PMR/GCA amongst friends and relatives.

Gout isn't classed as an autoimmune disorder - it is an inablity to process uric acid which leads to the formation of urate crystals in the jonts. Arthritises are classified as autoimmune - like RA - and crystal - like gout.
