I've just been diagnosed with Rosecea, help!

I do suffer with quite a few medical problems stemming from alcohol  abuse, but this seems to be the final straw. At first, I noticed a rash on my cheeks, more patchy than just red all over, Now I'm getting lumps and bumps daily. An online doctor (I couldn't face going to my GP) has prescribed beta blockers and Brimondine which I haven't yet picked up.Any general advice, and do these unslightly swollen bumps just multiply!

I did not think what was going on with my face was a big deal.  Getting an appointment with a dermatologist and follow ups take forever so I am only now realizing I have a serious condition that is never going away and that I have to get control of.  It affects your eyes also.  I went to see an eye doctor who said my eye problems - itchy, watering, sore eyes - is caused by the rosacea.  Brimondine is usually prescribed for certain eye issues.  Beta blockers are usually for high blood pressure or heart related issues - it is a drug that makes your heart beat slower, but stronger.

After several visits and trying other topical creams, gels and ointments my dermatologist decided I deffinitely have rosacea and is prescribing the typical doxycycline pill.  This antibiotic is a kinder, gentler form of the tetracycline prescribed during the acne years which turned your teeth blue.  It does cause a burning sensation in your stomach.  It won't if taken with food, but I understand that you don't get the full effect of the dose if taken with food either.  The tummy trouble is also said to be worse if taken with alcohol.  I am told it may take many weeks before I see great results.  As well as the doxycycline I have been switched from a topical cream called metronidazole to a gel called azelaic acid.  The azelaic acid really burns for a while when you rub in on the effected areas and makes these areas turn really angry red for a while.  As prescribed for me it is to be applied twice a day.  Ouch and double ouch  The metronidazole does the same thing as well, but to a much lesser extent.  They are both antibiotic, topical creme/gel  If they work equally as well I favor the metronidazole.  So far nothing is working well, but I only just now realized that this is never going away, it can become permanently disfiguring and if it is not getting better I am not doing my part well enough until it does.
