I've just found out a nearly 6 year old knee injury may have been misdiagnosed.

I was in a sporting accident, and have walked with a cane since I was 17 because of this. I'm coming up on 23 now, had a doctor diagnose me with IT Band Syndrome when I was 20. With rest, the recovery time is supposed to be 4-8 weeks, and I have done that and some amount of physical therapy, yet the problems have not gone away.
I'm currently jobless and homeless so I cannot go to a doctor or hospital for assistance because I have no money and no insurance. Is it possible for IT Band Syndrome to not recover after months of physical therapy and consistent rest?

I have no experience of this. But somehow you need to get help. What country are you in?
1. Is there no health service?
2. Can you contact any family of friends for help?
3. Can the sports club you played for when the accident happened not help? They must have insurance???
4. Can you not just turn up at an A & E and get seen.?
5. Why can you not go back to the doctor who originally misdiagnosed you? Who confirmed the misdiagnosion?
6. Failing all that, as a last resort, consider legal action.
I too will say a prayer for you

I'm currently studying healthcare in online courses at a local library, and just came across the information and wanted to see if I could confirm with someone more learned on the subject than I am.
I'm living in america, and it was a martial arts tournament that I had signed a waiver for. I'm living in a different state than I was at the time of diagnosis, and the doctor is no longer working at the clinic I went to. I am estranged from my family and outside of occasionally being treated to meals by local friends, I have very little means of receiving any form of assistance. The initial diagnosis prevented me from qualifying for disability assistance, as it was seen as something that would not prevent me from working for more than 6 months, despite the injury occurring 3 years before the diagnosis.

Sorry to hear that Raven.
It sounds very unfair.
In Ireland, the signing of a waiver means very little when the law shows favour to the victim.
Maybe even a second doctors opinion to help you get disability allowance might help.
You are great to be studying on line, well done, keep it up. This suggests you are a very strong willed person.
You are far too young to carry this injury if there is something that can be done. Try everything....
Share your story on every on line forum, look for help, for sponsorship. There are lots of good people out there willing to give a hand. There must be a doctor on here that could arrange a diagnosis to get you advice and maybe help that's needed.
Try EVERYTHING, people are good.
