I've recently been diagnosed with genital herpes and I'm in agony!

So I'm currently in a long term relationship for nearly 2 years, never once cheated neither has my partner but 3 days ago myself and my partner were told we have genital herpes! My vagina is in a really bad state and its in agony like unbearable pain!!! I've been on medication for 2 days, I've to take them 5 times a day for 5 days, I'm applying sudocrem to myself because it helps soothe the pain especially when I pee but my anus is really bad it's just burning 24/7, before I got it I shaved all my pubes so they are now growing back and making the pain worse also to top it off I started my period today!!! I go for a warm bath every night but it's hard to clean myself because it's really toooo sore to touch!

Can anyone just give me some advice on how long my first outbreak will last while being on 400mg medication? Just any advise will be good to make me feel better

    Hi Laura!

I've recently been diagnosed with HSV2. I had my first outbreak almost a month ago and it's still fresh in my mind. I can sympathesize completely.

The length of the outbreak can vary. My pain began to dwindle down after a few days of being on antivirals. Urinating was painful still for a bit. I still have trouble urinating, as I believe I'm experiencing neuropathy. I found applying aloe with lidocaine helps a lot with relieving pain too.

As for cleaning myself, I took a baby washcloth and used that. Made it 100× more tolerable. Easier to put cool compresses on too. Taking sitz baths are great to reduce pain. Also helps to pee while in the tub, lessens the burn. Also drink plenty of water to dilute your urine.

I'm still in the middle of my outbreak although I'm only in slight pain, everything seems to be getting better, I can finally pee without it hurting , it's trying to do no.2 that is killing me! Hurts like a bitch , I also got told with with my hsv2 I also have thrush, I've ran out of my antivirals but was giving stuff to treat thrush so I'm going to start taking that and see if it clears me up! I've just been applying a lot of sudocrem to myself and that soothes is a lot! I can finally take baths and clean myself now without it hurting so I think I'm getting a lot better!

I'm annoyed as to how I contracted this disease in the first place as I've been in a relationship 2 years and haven't cheated.. I'm starting to think it was the doctors itself that gave me it.. I got a smear test done and 3 days later I had herpes!!!! Could this be possible?

Darana's advice is good, although my preference is to wash with a shower head (not a cloth) and to use the shower head or a jug of water over the toilet while peeing. Drinking lots of water is important. The worst is the first week, after which things should noticeably ease up.

I was washing in a bath then using the shower head to wash away any discharged and stuff but I can now finally wash normal as I'm a lot better now and I'm no longer hurting as much!

It's been about a week now since I first noticed something's wrong so I've been on antivirals that helped a lot .

It no longer hurts when I pee now just when I have to do a no.2 it feels like someone is stabbing my lol
