I've stared on steroids of 20mg, this has reduced the inflation however I've not slept in nearly 3 weeks probably only getting 2 hours a night, I just wondered if this was the norm, my GP px me diazepam but this is not working at all so stopped taking them. Any solutions for the sleeping

Thank you although not heard of Tylenol. I'm wide awake it's just a good job that I'm off sick at the moment certainly wouldn't be able to function

Tylenol is the US brand name for a set of painkillers containing paracetamol including Tylenol 4 which is with codeine.

This is going to sound a bit unconventional.  As a lifelong intermittent insomniac I have never been much worried by sleepless nights.  After giving it a good try to get to sleep I will get up and read or do a crossword puzzle.  Never get on a computer if you plan to fall asleep eventually!  I usually just sit in a very comfy chair and let myself doze off if and when the time comes. I really think worrying about sleep makes things worse.  In times gone by, before electric lights, people often had two sleeps - They would go to bed and sleep for a while, and very often get up in the middle of the night, have a small meal, or sex, or do some work by candlelight.  Then they would go back to bed again for the second half of their sleep. Today in some warm countries many people, as you know, get a good rest in the early afternoon when it is very hot outside.  Another anecdote - I read a book by Doris Lessing in which she describes being in, I think, a Middle Eastern country, and waking up in the night to hear a soft murmer in the courtyard outside.  It turned out to be all the middle aged and older women in the neighbourhood socializing in the middle of the night, free of men and children.  Now, having said all that, I find now that I take a dose of my calcium supplement at bedtime I'm sleeping very well indeed. smile  Another thing - are you taking your pred dose as early in the morning as you can?

Jude, I split the dose. I take more in the morning. Right now I am in 14mg; I take 9 with breakfast and 5 after supper. In the beginning I was taking it all at once and felt like I was in orbit. This abates after awhile.

I had similar sleep problems when I started prednisone. I was taking 10 mg with breakfast and 10 mg with dinner.Ten mg of pred hyped me up so much I could hardly sit still much less sleep at night, so I started dosing at breakfast and lunch which almost immediately allowed me to sleep much better. Now that I am on 3 mg/day I just take it in the morning.

I was the same for about the first three weeks. I did not know what I was going to do in the middle of the night, and then fortunately, the problem just resolved itself. Husband was pleased. I had discovered internet shopping.

Like you I'm new to pmr as of October 2015. As one other person said I've always had sleeping problems and was on a mild sleeping pill pre pmr but even with that I was lucky to get 4-5hrs sleep.

Once PMR and prednisone I didn't sleep at all. I tried several types of sleeping pills and am on a strong one now but this last week I'm awake at 2-230am then toss and turn. A lot of this is stress, we are decluttering to sell. Even when it does work I get 5 hours sometimes more which I found made a difference in waking up with pain. More sleep I wake up pain free.

I too started at 20mg however it was 10mg am and 5mg at 3pm which may help you to sleep by taking a lower dose and earlier. I'm now at 17.5

    Good luck

I had the same issue but 2 Tylenol and a benedryl and  sleep like a baby. I'm also on a split dose that made sleep hard before the Tylenol and benedryl

What is Tylenol and benedryl? Certainly worth getting as still awake now

Tynedol is the North American brand name for paracetamol. Benedryl is an antihistamine.

We have a mix of people on the forum, many of whom are from from north America, so you may find reference to drugs used over the pond as well.

It's the combo of Tylenol and benedryl.  I quess Tylenol PM is the same.  But it's worth a try
