Yes, my sleep pattern is very weird and changes often. I try to just go with it now. I been taking zopiclone for over 2 months and stopped taking it last week, it didn’t really help that much anymore.

The best thing that’s been helping me is just accepting it. Sometimes I do wake up at weird times and find it hard to go back to sleep, but it tends to go away after a few nights or a week.

Perhaps try going to bed a bit later or staying up till 3 to see if that helps? Or try some melatonin.

    Hi Tracey,

This is not uncommon and happens with anxiety. It used to happen for me.

May I offer some 'practices' that helped me.

    • Try and go to bed at around the same time each evening, give or take 1/2 hour. Routine is important for your body clock.
    • Important that the hour before you sleep is relaxed. No phones. Read, have a warm bath, perhaps meditation ? Your mental calmness before sleep affects the quality and longevity of your sleep.
    • I find a chamomile tea at least an hour or two before bed works wonders.
    • Please don't have any clocks or a phone in your bedroom. Set alarms and then hide your clock or phone.

Poor sleepers often check the time. Either soon after retiring and think " I'll never get to sleep" or in the early hours and decide against going back to sleep. Best to relax and sleep again whatever time of night.

However if you are really buzzing, don't try and force relaxation. Get up, have drink, read a few pages etc and return to bed later.

    • Finally, you might have various thoughts/concerns mulling through your mind.

Jot down the various thoughts that are 'on your mind' in a notebook. Off-load them onto the paper and then close the book up. Your mind knows where they are if you want to read them in the morning. Your mind doesn't have to juggle these thoughts in the night. It should help any sub-conscious worries.

      Good Luck and sweet dreams!

      All the best, R.

I've always had a hard time falling asleep/staying asleep, the only thing I've found that helps me get to sleep is meditations on Youtube. There are some good mindfulness ones that help with anxiety and some that help over thinking and stuff like that. Theres a account called Mindful Peace that has a lot of good stuff. idk of thats your thing or not but get some headphones and pit that on and tune everything else out. There is all different length ones too to ise for 6-8 hours to help keep you asleep the whole time.

thank you. i listen to my relaxation music / meditation music now and again but it dosent seem to make any difference ! went to bed at 9.30 last night and woke at 2 . went to the toilet and managed to fall straight back to sleep until 4 ! thats a win for me !! i have a massive fear of dying and being ill and i think it all stems from my first bout of anxiety in 2013 and then since 2017 my dad has been battling cancer and alot of the responsibility of sorting everything out landed on me so it kinda took over my life for 2 years and my brain learned alot of things i wish it had not in that time .
