I want to be able to wear contacts but I felt sick when trying them on for the first time.

Not long ago, I was fitted for contact lenses, however when the optometrist helped me put them on, and take them off after, I got extremely nauseous and dizzy, so I had to lie down on the ground for a while.

I really want to know how I can prevent this, so next time I go in, I can actually get a prescription for the contact lenses, can anyone help?

I have tried contact lenses once, but I did not adapt to them because of the discomfort in my eyes, though I never felt any kind of dizziness or nausea.

I think this might have more to do with a degree increase of your new lenses compared to your previous glasses than with the lenses themselves. Or you may have felt unwell due to the "affliction" of inserting and removing the lens from your eyes.

It is said that the adaptation time for contact lenses is about ten days, but your symptoms being a bit more "severe", I think you should discuss it directly with your ophthalmologist.
