hiya sally

i'm afraid after about six weeks of taking ANY SSRI's, withdrawl is highly likely :? therefore it is very important to listen to your GP as regards coming of it :ok:  after 10 weeks it should be easy, but 'slowly does it'

listen to your doc if he/she says you should stay on it  be honest with him/her, as unless you do, you may receive the wrong treatment or even worse, become more poorly by giving the meds up

take care, register if you want to message me, because that's ok or post again :ok:

    cheers,

    Ken~~~~~~~~~~~ :rainbow: :rose:

    Hi Sally.

You've not said if you feel you have been geting any benefit from taking Sertraline. Is it helping? Or are the side effects just too awful?

50Mg is pretty much a base level dose for this drug, even the manufacturers would probably say that it's unlikely to have a theraputic effect in most cases at this level.

Everyone is different, I came off Citalopram with no problems, others have real problems. After ten weeks, your GP may suggest you take a while to come off it, maybe take half a tablet for a week or so?

Important thing is to tell the doctor how you are feeling and your concerns.

    Good luck and best regards.

    Hi again,

Last dose I had was 12/13th June, It took about 6 weeks to start feeling good. I didn't have any side effects, except around week 8-9 I start getting itch all over my body. apart from that my mood got low around week 8-9 and 10. I thought it was temp mood change but I was low for about 3 weeks, Due my other health problems (kidney and liver) I couldn't go more than 50mg so being a black/white person I stopped it. My GP didn't complain either. Itch gone few days after stopping. due to see my psych dr tomorrow. I am ok these days without it, not over the moon and very happy but at least I engage my self with life more than before.

    all the best

I was prescribed Serlife which is the equivalent of said medication in South Africa and the first few weeks I was totally out of it, feeling floaty, got major panic attacks (first time ever, I thought i was having a heart attack) and suffered memory loss and confusion, but eventually the side effects faded and I was left feeling numb and as if there was a veil between my consciousness and reality. I did not enjoy this feeling, I like to be in control and I know that I am not depressed so I went cold turkey... OMG... I feel so awful it is unreal... the first few days were awesome, I was back in my own head but after like the third day I started feeling out of it again, my tummy started working overtime and I have this constant pressure at the back of my neck and head and it feels like I am going crazy. I feel out of it, have slight memory loss, a bit of confusion now and again etc. Not sure if it is withdrawals or if it can be something else but all I can say is that I made a huge mistake taking the meds and I was only on it for 4 weeks. I am into week two of cold turkey and wondering how much longer I am going to feel like this... Will I ever be back to my old self again... I want to cry I am so disturbed by this and it feels like no one understands. Cashew I can mostly relate to you, that's why I posted here... Anyone any ideas, I am so freaked out.

Sertraline was horrible, i was perscribed them for mild depression and anxiety, but found that during the course that my anxiety was getting worse and that it felt different. Instead of it being caused by certain situations i was getting attacks periodically and without reason. I slowly withdrew into myself and almost became another person. Every thing always seemed so jumbled in my head all of the time but i never thought to blame the tablets as it was a gradule thing. It was only once i took myself off of them because i was convinced that it was them making my anxiety worse that i started to become myself again. It was almost immediate. My thought process and even my speech sped up. I didnt realise just how bad it had been effecting me. It was horrible. At first my anxiety was worse due to the withdrawlls, but coming off of them (against my g.p's wishes) was the best thing i ever did!

Hi D.,

How long have you been on sertaline? I am on the tablet for about 9 weeks and most of horrible feelings fade out, but sometimes still have headaches, pain in the neck and feeling generally tired. These feelings make me upset and I can't wait to get of them, that I could maybe do without them. My GP said that I should be on the tablet at least 6 months and then I can decide either stay on them longer or stop slowly, I don't know? :?
