I was 23 when I had my daughter & developed itching in my hands and feet from 28 weeks. I didnt think anything of it until someone told me to mention it to the nurse. My liver function came back abnormal & I ended up with pre eclampsia and toximia to. I was induced at 37 weeks to my little girl who weighed 4lb 10 oz. I have also had my gallbladder out when I was 21 yrs old - Connection I think.:roll:

    My little girl was born in August 2006, I had to be induced at 39 weeks due to OC. I was lucky in that it came on only at about 37 weeks, but I too have had my gallbladder out (6 years ago). There is definitely a connection - if you have no gallbladder, your liver is under more stress and has to work harder, therefore in my opinion OC is more likely. Thankfully I have a beautiful little girl, I'm scared of getting OC in my next pregnancy though and having to be induced again - I would love to do it naturally next time!

    Hiya, I had OC with my 1st child in 03 but not with my 2nd born in december.. Just recently I have been suffering with my gallbladder (a scan of my liver in 03 showed I had gallstones) I have been rushed into hospital twice since easter with excruciating pain but another scan showed no stones. So the doctors and I are baffled but the more I think about it the more I think the OC and my dodgy gall bladder problems are related. It's a shame the docs in this country cant quite see the connection?!

    Daughter-in-law in USA told me yesterday about terrible itching at 35/36 weeks. Had seen Dr who gave a cream which didn't help. I'm a nurse (not midwifery trained) and I spoke to a colleague/midwife today who told me to tell her to contact to her midwife asap (was due to see Dr again this Tues).

    I phoned in her in USA when got home and fortunately found she has appt to see GP TODAY at 1:30 their time ( 6:30 our time).

    I have e-mailed her an article on Cholestasis 'just in case'.

    Thanks for all who have shared their experience. It's our 1st Grandchild and you could say I'm a little worried!
