I am 78 years old and have Lichen Sclerosus for three years.  In addition  to LS

this a year and a half ago I was told I had Hypothyroid.  I have been treated for the LS with Estrogen cream twice a week.  In order to keep the area from cracking I also use "Aquaphor healing ointment" daily.  I have developed Bladder infections and have been using "Cipro" which stops the discomfort, but for three days after I am finished with the med it comes back.  I read where many women have the sme issues that are combined.  I was given a medication for the bladder however since Cipro didn't work I was put on a drug called "Nitrofurantoin MCR.".  The doctor did not like me on it at my age and he was correct.  I woke the third day after taking it with my ears pounding, took my bolld pressure, it read 188/78.  Has anyone found anything for the UTI infections that work?

Hi Pat, I am 64 years I went through a spate of UTI's  I found taking cranberry tablets from our herbal shop helped me greatly.just follow the instructions on the bottle and hopefully it will help.

I also have LS, vulvodynia and an underactive thyroid and many other problems also,I am waiting for a dat scan to see if I have Parkinson's disease. But I think the LS has caused me far more discomfort than anything else. I now use a cream with Zinc in to help repair the skin as the steroid cream made if very tender and sore, it ripped very easy after wiping myself after urinating.I now apply zinc every time. I have also started drinking bottle water and had a water filter fitted and a water filter jug as I found the water where I live gave me problems.I found water was my problem after a weeks holiday away, on returning home my problems came back. Try keeping a diary of what you have eaten or drunk and see if you have a flare up within half an hour of eating or drinking.

Hope this is of help to you, good luck

Roselee , are you sure it is LS in the uretha? I had a sensation of pins being pushed up my uretha, and it was vulvodynia. I am convinced it was caused by flouride in the water I was drinking.Since drinking filtered water it has ease.

    Best wishes

A great emergency treatment for a bladder infection is to go out and buy 6 lemons. Juice two at a time and add a little water and drink.  (RInse your mouth out afterwards so as to protect the enamel on your teeth...but don't swallow the water as you want the lemon juice as strong as possible in your bladder). Hold this in your bladder for as long as you can before urinating.  Do it again it one hour...and then again an hour later.  This will oftentimes clear up a bladder infection if you catch it immediately. And if not, it will at least make your more comfortable until you can get into see your doctor.
