I was diagnosed with OC 2 weeks ago with a raised bile salts of 27. I itched for only 36 hours and then it went away and I have felt completely fine. My liver function tests are all completely normal.

Has anyone else ever had itching that went away before they had the baby?

I too was diagnoised with OC on the 20/2/07. I've got really bad itching and it hasn't gone away its driving me insane. Its a good sign your itching has gone. Are you on medication?? This may have reduced your bile acids enough to stop you itching. Mine are very high 124 at there worst, my medication has bought them down to 55, which is quite a drop. so if your medication has bought yours down they are prob back to normal (under 20), which is why your not itching. Though I'm no doctor!!!. Have you had a recent blood test?

Its nice to know I'm not alone.

yes i was wondering something just like this myself. i have had itchy hands and feet on/off this pregnancy since 17 weeks and 6 days.

i had a bile acid test done at 18 weeks a day later and my bile acids were 11.

i was told that was normal, but i kept on itching so i didn't think so. i did some research and some hospitals will treat you for OC if your bile acids are anywhere above 10.

i mentioned this to my midwife who wouldn't have any of it, so i complained to the hospital and was located a new midwife who now gives me blood tests.

since the itching keeps on coming and going and i have since had two blood tests done where my bile acids came back at 5 and then 2 weeks later at 4.

i am now almost 31 weeks pregnant. i am wondering if maybe my liver just had a bad moment, but i request they take my blood anyhow because it's not something i want to risk.

Hi only to familiar your story, I was diagnosed with my first baby at 38 weeks the itching came on at 37 weeks they then inducedme. Baby boy lovely and healthy, my 2nd pregnancy 2007 at 39weeks and was induced same day, in Nov 2008 at 28 weeks with twins was diagnosed again and eventually had to have emergency c-sect at 34 weeks not just because of OC but they were not doing very well. but in answer to your questions my itching was coming and going I was put on urso which reduced my LFT'S yet itching was awful one day and then nothing a few days later, they also gave me menthol cream to put on that was nice helped very little but also great for your feet. Good luck all will be fine but if in doubt then check x let me know how you all get on clairtearlive.co.uk
