Hi,
when I was 14 I was diagnosed with Osgood Schlatters disease (I'm now 24) and still get just as much pain as I did back then.
During my teens I played high level basketball 6 days a week.
From the research I've done, OS usually heals after a few years. Is the a particular specialist I should be seeing for this injury?
TIA

My son has had the same problem in both knees since he was 15...now 29. the last that I heard was that he passed on the surgery since there was not a great success rate a while back...don't know about current techniques or rates. He lives near Denver so he avails himself of "ointments" that you can only get in "legal" states. These have kept him out of the worst of the pain for a long time.
I would recommend getting checked out by a SPORTS orthopedic surgeon in a group near you that works with the local high school, college and/or pro teams. Do some research (start with the online Mayo Clinic) on the latest innovations in treating the problem and ask the doc all the right questions, especially about the surgery to remove the excess bone and what the success rates are right now. The last thing you want to do is take an NSAID long-term as it will eat right through your stomach.
I don't know the efficacy of CBD-based topicals (which will be legal in all states) so you can look into them too. We have an excellent compounding pharmacy here outside of Fort Worth whose pros have been working with CBD for many years. You might want to find one near you to see if they have any O-S experience. You don't want to buy something off the Internet without consulting a nursing or pharmacy professional who's had experience with these formulations.
Then there's always the possibility of moving to a legal state as many, many people have done that for long-term pain relief as well as life-saving treatments for cancer. My daughter survived Stage 3 breast cancer because of the pure medicinal tincture and has been clean for six years. There's a lot of power in that plant. Just something else to consider. However, I'd start with research and a visit to a good sports ortho. Good luck.

I live in Canada where marijuana is legal, and doctors do see the benefit of it. It took a lot of convincing from my doctor at the pain clinic to try this as an alternative. I am so glad that I did. I can use it and feel 90% relief from the pain that I was feeling after bilateral total knee replacement surgery. I hope that you live in a state that will allow you to try this as an option. I agree with Chico Marx about the benefits of CBD.
