I was diagnosed with pericaritis at a hospital in Jan 2000 after being sent home by a GP who thought I'd pulled a muscle in my chest. I'd never been in as much pain. since then, I've had bouts lasting usually about a week, a few times a year, usually following a cold.

I've now had it for over three weeks and have had a mild fever of around 99-101 degrees F. I've now been signed off work for a week. None of the anti-inflam medication seems to be working. Neither did the steroids. The painkillers the doctor gave me sent me doolally, and paracetamol don't touch the pain. i'm at a loss as to what to do as this is preventing me from carrying on normally. I have a daughter who's nearly three and a house to run.

Hello there I myself have had this condition 5 times now and I understand how you feel,I cant understand how anti-flams have not worked for you they always have for me but they do take time.I agree with the anonymous letter that the flu jab does help but not totally for me, as I have a heavy job and have found that if I dont take care of my well-being I can go down with this again.Eating well and watching stress levels to me help me thru, everytime I have had this it is totally draining feels if all the the strength had gone had to take at least a month off work. This is just my account of this but I can assure you you will get back to normal but it takes time dont rush things.
