If you are in the Uk the average wait after the nerve conduction study is between 1 and 3 months. I waited 9 weeks, recovery time is very difficult to define. I was off work for 6 weeks, the first two until the stitches come out is hard, but things then start to heal. Just don't rush things and don't go lifting anything heavy for around 3 months. Hope all goes well.

The need for surgery is not wholly defined by the nerve conduction results, though they can help to guide sometimes. It's worth also considering the severity of symptoms and signs and how it has responded to splints and steroids first. Waits for surgery vary hugely around the country. Recovery depends on what you want to do afterwards, light activities can often be resumed within days but heavy manual work with the hands is likely to be 4-6 weeks off. Dr J Bland
