Hi, i am a 29yo white female. I am in my last year of gaining my associates of science in sonography. I have noticed during this last year or so being in school full time, being a mom, and working (serving on weekends) that I get in these spurts of random sometimes debilitating pains usually targeted to one area mostly at a time. I noticed in extreme stress these pains pop up more. I'm in midterms right now (I get severely stressed!) And my rt arm went numb with pins and needles feeling (for days!!)... it's worse at night. My arm was in so much pain I couldn't preform ultrasounds for my exams! Now randomly today in class (after an exam) my neck is in so much pain and stiff. I've massaged my neck... took ibuprophen... and I'm using a heating pad currently.

I am also for unknown reasons hypertensive, I'm on bp meds to control it.

I am not overweight, generally fit, don't eat to badly most of the time.

I am very very exhausted all the time, even when I sleep I feel exhausted. I do have anxiety and depression problems.

The only thing I've really noticed with always being tired is if I take a daily nap after class or my internship I am not foggy and grumpy the rest of the night. But I hate taking naps EVERYDAY!

I just wanted to put this on this board see what you guys have to say!

Should I ask my Dr to test me for fibromyalgia? I always feel silly asking my doc things because she kinda looks at me like you are "young " and fit you are fine. Except my hypertension... she took that seriously.

Thanks so much, would love to hear what you guys think!

Hi Mary. Well Fibromyalgia has no set age sweetie. It can hit at anytime in life. But after describing all the pressures you are under and the stress you feel, you can understand why your body would protest. The body is an amazing machine but too much stress and eventually, things are bound to go down hill. You can ask your doctor to refer you to a Rheumatologist to get an accurate diagnosis. Your pain in the arm sounds like it could be Carpal Tunnel, or repetitive movement syndrome. Stress can cause pain in any part of the body Mary and long term stress can even cause similar pain in the chest to a heart problem. I would not be overly concerned my dear. To reassure yourself, get a correct diagnosis and then you can go from there. This condition is manageable if the results are positive. But you would need to try to manage your stress sweetie. You sure have a great deal on your plate. Women usually ask the 'impossible' from themselves. You are not superwoman sweetie. What would you say to a dear friend? How would you give her advice? You would probably see the answers clearly. Well then try to be your own best friend Mary. High achievers suffer a great deal of stress and anxiety because they feel like they are being pulled in every direction. It can start with a self esteem issue where you never feel like you are good enough. Take inventory Mary and see if you can cut down on some activities in order to take better care of yourself. YOU girl, are important also! Maggie xx

I think you should ask. No question is crazy . I'm 53, I was told about 9 months ago, I'm still trying to figure out what it is. It's also my right shoulder, hurts 24 /7. It's worse when I lay down at night. Plx get tested.
