IBD uncertainty

Hi,

I recently went in for a sigmoidoscopy to check out some bowel problems I was having (infrequent bleeding episodes, trapped gas, diarrhea, etc) and it was discovered that I had a few ulcers in the colon that were listed on the sheet as 'consistent with Crohn's colitis'. They took some biopsies so they could come up with a diagnosis, but is it possible at all that it isn't Crohn's, and that it could simply be something else that was mistaken for it? I just thought it seemed unlikely because I hear Crohn's causes people a lot of discomfort and my symptoms aren't even really that severe. My stool looks quite healthy and I only get a bit of trapped gas occasionally now, and the bleeding seems to have gone away completely. It means a lot to my state of mind that there could be other possibilities, as I get pretty bad anxiety when it comes to medical stuff. Thank you to anyone who can provide some insight into this uncertain diagnosis.

My brother has Crohn's disease. Same symptoms as you. My brother told me that everyone with Crohns and Ulcerative Colitis experience IBD differently. There are times where my brother is perfectly fine, and gets bad flare ups (meaning more frequent bleeding, more pain, etc). So it could be that your symptoms are just not as severe as other people experiencing the disease, or that your flare up is calming down.
