Just wondering if anyone else suffers from IBS and do they find it gets  worse with their menopause at times?

Definitely! IBS-C is much worse. Things that only caused slight problems before are now totally off the menu. Dulco-Ease is my new best friend 😕 I used to notice it happened in alignment with when my periods were due before, but now it seems to be pretty much constant. Damn hormones!!!!

Hi Karla, yes allsorts of gastric and bowel issues arise with this process. If you are feeling really bad go and see your dr as allsorts of meds are available to help with these issues. If you already have IBS then you know what excess gas, constipation then diahorrea is like. It definitely does get more touchy if you are in menopause. Make sure you keep your bowels moving to keep the constipation and gas under control, and if you get diahorrea, take a couple of Loperamide capsules to calm it but dont take too many or you will block up again. Alot of these things are trial and error I'm sorry to say, so swings and roundabouts, but I find that the above regime works for me. Hope it helps you. XXX

Yes, I definitely get very loose right around when I'm getting my period. Other times too, since now I don't have a gall bladder thanks to peri meltdown, it depends on what I eat. Some things can throw me in to a complete tizzy. About 6 years ago I had a year long battle with IBS, even going all soluble fiber diet didn't do the trick. Finally had a colonoscopy which looked super clean, mostly because of the soluble fiber diet, the doc said she had never seen such a clean colon, ha! But for some reason the colonoscopy or maybe the cleanse snapped my bowels out of the diarrhea mode. I didn't even realize I was in peri in my 40s, but now that I know so much more, the night sweats, the strange pains, the IBS, was probably all the first symptoms.

Strange you should say that hun. I've litetally just got off the phone with my dr. After talking his ear off for half an hour he now agrees with me that alot of my peculiar unexplainable health issues were probably peri and probably for donkeys years. Unknown ofcourse because they werent looking for it because I was having regular periods all be it that they were really heavy and painful! I can now go back possibly 10 years maybe more of unexplained health problems appearing. Irregular cycle began then and all sorts of other things. My ovaries finally crashed last December and to my horror the symptoms I got on top of everything else were off the scale so put on hrt. Dr agrees it is not working properly 1. Due to regular bouts of diahorrea so not absorbing it properly so hes changing me to patches and 2. He is going to research BHRT for me as he thinks my body may not be recognising the synthetic hrt properly. In UK BHRT is very unusual on prescription and at moment only some consultant endocrinologists can give it so he said he'll send me back upto London to get it if necessary. My dr is wonderful. He does absolutely anything he can for me. In a couple of weeks I start the rounds again, smear test mammogram, ultrasound and full body MRI Scan, full bloodworks the lot! He cant do enough for me I am so very lucky that he was my friend before being my dr. He is like a family member now. My partner and sons just put the cherry on the cake for me. I really feel so bad for all those ladies who dont have helpful drs and who dont have great family support. Still at least I can try to pass on what I find out from my dr to help other ladies on here. If you need me I am here for you anytime. XXX
