Hi Denise if this has been going on for more than a couple of weeks then you should be referred to a specialist gastroenterology professional at your local hospital. Doctors generally have a poor understanding of the various diseases which affect the bowel and calling it IBS is a favourite conclusion. If you want to get better you must press your doctor to get a referral.

Hi Denise, you need to have a colonoscopy procedure done to confirm that's it's I've and than get proper meds to treat it. In the meantime get a 2 nd opinion and a referral to a specialist.

Maybe time for you to ask to be referred to a specialist who can carry out a colonoscopy. That is the only way you can be sure if you are sufferings from IBS or IBD! Meanwhile keep a note of the foods that upset you more and avoid them, keep well hydrated and try not to stress. The earlier you have things looked at, the better to have it treated! I've been battling with UC for 7 years now and there is no definite answer as most sufferers respond very differently to medication. Having a colonoscopy is nothing to be afraid of, I have had two, and by simply taking sedation I felt nothing each time. You will be well taken care of. Speak to your GP. Kind regards.
