Yes! anxiety and or depression and IBS go hand in hand. I have suffered from anxiety/mild depression for years and I had my first IBS attack when I was 29 (66 yrs now).. The stomach is the 'seat' of emotion and that's where you feel  the effects of IBS/Colitis first in most cases. It causes constipation/diahorrea and a general feeling of being unwell and foggy headed. Grumbling tummy and gas .. the symptoms go on.. There is no cure as such but I find that just trying to shift my thoughts to something pleasant and breathing (being aware of your breathing) will calm your tummy down. Drink lots of water to help with the hard stools and to keep things flowing as best you can. The joys of IBS!  ...

If you mean tightness of the chest? then yes, sometimes, It's anxiety. Also I get a very strange sensation that feels like something is 'stuck' in my throat like I have swallowed a tablet and its got stuck.. My GP gave me Lorazepam and I must admit I end up having to take it sometimes to alleviate the feelings. What chest symptoms are you getting Kelly?

Hi Ann, you are very welcome. I take (as needed) Lorazepan but I only take it when I REALLY need to as it is very addictive. It works though! It calms me and all my negative thoughts and feelings go away. But, I also catch my thoughts when they start to become negative, one good trick I learned is to use one of the 5 senses to divert a potentially anxious inducing episode, the mind cannot think at the same time as one of your senses is engaged forinstance.. spray some perfume in the air, play a fave tune, tap the back of your hand.. within a short time your negative thought(s) will fade away.... It works for me and trains your mind.

Prior to my IBS diagnosis, I had loose stools because my doctors couldn't help me.  Afterwards, I felt much better.
