IBS and bloated/gas problems

Hi all smile I have been suffering from IBS for a long time.. attacks come and go especially when I am stresssed (these days seems like most of the time!) I have just an uncomfortable feeling under the bottom of my ribs, like there is a pocket of gas, bathroom problems = hard and soft stools mostly. But, no pain or desperate need to "go".. Has any one any advice on how to deplete the gas? what is on the market that folks have used that actually works? I have tried colpermin but with a 'so,so' affect.. just get so fed up with feeling bloated and it's getting me down.. help!

    Hi Pat,

I was in the same boat and found that switching to Almond milk has decreased gas quite a bit. Also eating golden berries reeducas inflammation since it is an anti inflammatory with antioxidant practices!

Try avoiding broccoli, cabbage and brussels sprouts which can cause gas.  Have you tried Fodmap?

Thanks for your helpful replies. Pippa, what is Fodmap? Do you have a link please? smile

The Low Fodmap diet was developed by Monash University in Australia and it gives a list of food groups that commonly cause problems for IBS sufferers and those that are considered ok.  It is known to help many people with their symptoms.  You should be able to find information about it on google.  I am nor sure if a link would post properly here.  However, it is a fairly well known treatment option for IBS and can be accessed easily.

Absolutely recommend probiotics for bloating.  Also to get rid of bloating - suggestions go off bread, dairy, alcohol and caffeine.

But for a start probiotics - amazing.
