I am new to hear and desparatlt looking for some help . I have been diagnosed with ibs since I was 16, im now 29. Lately I have been in a lot of pain in the mornings . As soon as I get up my stomach starts cramping like I need a poo, when I get to the toilet I cant go! this goes on for about 4 hours every morning! I spend all morning going backwards and forwards to the bathroom only managing pellet like stools and straining for hours. Does anybody else have this problem ? im beginning to worry about it being something else.
I read yesterday that dairy can make it worse so have just cut that out. I am also starting fibregel today as its the only thing I havnt tried!
anybodys help wud be great, thankyou!

I have been to see a nutritionist who put me on a special diet, probiotics and some other vitamins, it helps, but also I bought a book called the gut reaction by Gudrun Jonsson, get the first book off Amazon. She only wrote two. I have bought many books but you will find yourself in there. It was the most revolutionary one I have read, easy to follow and if you can just persevere it will help, but spend the cash, my neutritionist has helped me no end.

YES to: water, water and more water, 8 - 10 servings of vegetables, (many raw). almond milk instead of constipating cow's milk, high fiber bread/cereal products, and very important: 3 - 4 tablets of magnesium before bed (which calm the nerves and help you sleep too!)
NO to: rice, tea (until you have things under control) sweets, overeating and underripe bananas. YES also to physical activity...every day...join a gym or go for a long, brisk walk every day, rain or shine.
Write me back if you like when you have things moving along nicely every day...because you can make it happen.

You have the typical symptoms of IBS. I think it is caused a little by nature and a little by nuture. Some have sensitive stomachs and then get bacterial infections which cause it. Stress and food can irritate it, not cause it. However, because it is so common with so many different variables per person, i.e. genes, eating habits, stress etc, I do actually think there is a bacterial cause and not just down to one thing alone. Many people with stressful lives do not get IBS.
I do advocate eating 2/3 of the plate as vegetables (soluable fibre only) and the remainder protein/carbohydrates. But you have to ditch processed foods. Anything out of a jar or packet I`m afraid (corperate chemists). Cook and prepare whole foods yourself only.
I dont include Rice as a no go. Its non gluten, not particularly problematic if you use wholegrain rice and cook for 40+ mins. It soaks up a ton of water to be released into the bowel. I indeed eat wholegrain pasta too, not a.problem for me. A lot of people blame bread (as in gluten) but its not the gluten that troubles them. It is the artificial chemicals added and processing. (I mean, why strip the goodness from the wheat grain, then have to add it back in with synthetic vitamins to make it healthy? Never made sense to me that one!) One caveat here is if you are gluten intolerant, avoid it. (Which 97% of you arent!)
Sugar is a problem for some but not for others so cutting down on it will do your whole body a big favour for dozens of reasons I wont go into here. Plus, you will need proper complex carbs for when you hit the gym! Just cut it to a minimum as much as you can. Corperate chemists add it by the truckload to make low cost, low quality ingredients taste nice.
Personally I use hemp milk because of its natural omega 3/6 in a 3:1 ratio. That is brain food and fats your body needs. (The fact that 1st civilisation of man in south african coastal area can be found millions of harvested seafood shells, which basically means they feasted on omega 3 and proteins). I didnt give up cows milk for any other reason than a healthier diet. Tons of vegetables have more vitamins and mineral found in cows milk anyway. Another myth busted!
That staple diet may sound boring but you can season with herbs and fats like olive oil, hemp oil, walnut oil. Out of the two, fat is more beneficial than sugars.
Try to eat less. There`s huge data to support that after times of famine or war, life expectancies increased in suqsequent years. This can only mean one thing, eating less is actually beneficial for the body. Eat slowly.
Get into the gym. Its the equivalent of chasing your next dinner all day long, like your ancestors. Forget the nambi pambi cycling and cross fit machines. Get on the weights, get that blood pumping around your stomach, organs and brain. If your a woman you wont get bulky, you dont have enough testosterone. Resistance training increases the amount and health of the mitochondria and the more you have the fitter you are. You`ll also flood your system with good chemicals, mood altering, stress lowering chemicals. Gym 3 x times a week, alternating days, 12 rep x 2 sets with a weight you can manage but fail to lift at about 10-12 reps. After 6 weeks, take a week off, swim, sauna. Google some full body exercise routines.
Finally, ditch the negative. People, lifestyle, job etc.
BTW, Fibregel is fine. It works but not on its own.

Excellent answer.Couldn't have said it better myself. In addition, I would like to mention that today's wheat has been genetically modified and according to the author of the best seller Wheat Belly, contains chemicals that alter the functioning of the brain causing hyperactivity and learning disabiities in children as well as food cravings. Bread was made from natural, unmodified, ancient grains up until the last century when scientists started experimenting to alter it's composition in order to create faster growing wheat. For example, wheat is only 3 feet tall.
Just thought I'd mention this.
I have never heard of hemp milk. I put hemp hearts into my morning smoothie. I do not tolerate dairy and am glad not to be drinking the contents of a cow's udder that is full of antibiotics and if not synthetic hormones, then the cow's own hormones. In any case, cow's milk gives me abdominal cramps and makes my eyes and nose run. I do enjoy the taste of simple almond milk.
Good luck everyone!

I also use the hemp cooking oil and the hemp seeds (as you and I know how seeds, nuts etc are so beneficial).
I still use olive oil though for bacon and eggs! as the hemp oil does admittedly have a grassy flavour but you get used to it. Both have the same smoke point so dont overheat these oils above 180d.
Try searching for Good Hemp Food and have a read.

I must go to our local health food store and buy a container of hemp milk. I didn't realize that almond and hemp milks are topped up with ricemilk...constipating I guess if you drink enough of it. I just take maybe a 1/4 in my green tea in the morning. I pour some Barlean's fish oil Omega 3 in my morning smoothie (along wiht hemp hearts, lecithin, torula yeast, ground nuts and seeds etc..) and unlike the capsules, they are digestible. I sent some Barlean's fish oil to my grandson who loves it!...and he has little appetite. It is to hopefully help his brain 'cope' with his ADHD and he is suddenly at age 6 doing very well in school and is well behaved...however he is on ritalin too.
I hate to hear that anyone is on ANY medications that cannot be managed through lifestyke changes. People are quick to accept drugs from the doctor and I really believe that some people feel that taking medications is a kind of badge of honour!
I strongly feel that immunization is the cause of steep rise in the incidence of auto-immune disease and allergies...and autism. What has been disproved in studies comparing immunized children with other immunized children, some taking the vaccine with mercury and others without....and there is no difference. I really think it is the fact of provoking the immune system over and over with vaccines. But that is a whole other story...for another site! he he...
Keep up the good work helping others.
Robin
