IBS and coughing / sore throat
Posted , 9 users are following.
Hello. I have recently been diagnosed with IBS, but my main symptoms are not so much the spasms / pain, but a nasty cough associated with acid reflux, and the sore throat that goes with it. It is worse in the mornings, and if I lean forward. Eating / talking / stress also bring it on more. Does anyone else have this, and, if so, does anyone know if Mebeverine helps with this too, or is it just the spasms that it helps ? I see from reading soem other posts that it does seem to help diarroeah.
Thanks ! :D

the bacteria in your stomach that you was talkin about is called Helicobacter Pylori (i think!) and can cause the symptoms that you've mentioned. something to note here is that it can also cause symptoms similar to ibs so if takin the mebeverine doesnt help it could be worth your time to ask doc for tests to check for this. you will be given 3 (if i remember correctly) courses of difrent tablets to take over a period of one week, one being a very strong anti biotic. be warned here thow, my doc informed me that the combination was vey strong, and strong it was. i was blew off my feet for the whole week, feeling much much worse than i had in a long time. i cant say it was worth it as i had no symptoms (like he acid reflux u suffer) so nothing changed except the fact i knew i was bacteria free! the dose they give differs depending on your circumstance so dont worry about it, just be warned!
take care and i hope you get this sorted asap

Hi
I have or had, I should say acid reflux as well as IBS, I have been put on Fybogel and Mebeverine for IBS, for the acid thing I was put on lanzoprazol, it is for acid and ulcers, it got rid of it, but what I noticed was..,that it slowed my metabolism..which I wasn't happy about, I don't know if this will help ask your doctor about Lanzoprazol.

Although taking all these tablets, yes they are all doing the job they are supposed to do but I have found that my urticaria has become worse since I have been taking mebeverine as one of the side effects are red rashes, but I am concerned that my vision, although I have glasses for driving my close vision was perfect and now I am concerned that I have to blink alot to try and focus and rub my eyes. The doctor when she prescribed them said mebeverine could slow the reation to light in the eye, but when I saw another doctor within the same practice and mentioned about my concerns she said mebeverine doesn't affect the eyes.I am none the wiser, but it is interesting to read that you have vision troubles too.
I am considering taking a break from mebeverine and see how I go on because at the moment my eyes are worrying and my skin is red raw from itching and scratching. sorry my reply is so long but I couldn't condense it enough to make myself understood. I am 52 and feel as though everything is wearing out!!!

I have had cough every morning from about 4 years and would go along the whole day. It was embarrassing to talk as I would cough whenever I tried to talk. I felt something holding my throat as I try to swallow or talk.
I tried with different doctors and some even suggested that I may have a extra mucous secretion in my throat, which is normal like for some women in extra vaginal discharge. I kept looking around and then showed it to an ENT, who diagnosed it as silent acid reflux. I was given Omripizol or something like that and an anti allergic tab for 30 days. I still had it after all the medication.
However, I then talked to an Internal Medicine specialist who diagnosed all the symptoms exactly as I had and suggested it as IBS. He conducted detailed blood test, H. Pyloris test and x-ray, which were all fine. I still need to have an abdominal ultra-sound and stool test today. I will keep you updated.
Regards,
Sameer

I found Buscopan far more stomach friendly and they work, at least for me.
