IBS AND LOSS OF WEIGHT

Has anyone here had loss of weight with IBS?

I have lost 5 kgs (12 lbs) since I got semonella -can't regain it - most was at the start but lost a couple more hopefully from worrying going to the toilet regularity and eating better foods i.e. Not as much fats as i did before. I do not exercise much anymore the depression has caused me to rarely go walking

So the muscles in my legs have got skinny - muscles weigh heavier than fat so hope it's those reasons. Vicious cycle trying to eat the fodmap diet which doesn't include soot of fats and sugars so I've decided to have a few treats as I don't want to keep loosing weight. It's a hard one.

Weight loss through worry or being frightened to eat because of food reactions is common with IBS.  Eating a low fat diet will also make you lose weight.  Worry can make me lose half a stone in a week.  Depression can also cause you to lose  appetite and weight.

Sure that's what it is or hopefully - I don't have an appetite at all and the fodmap diet doesn't make it exciting to eat either

I make these health balls using only what is on the diet rice puffs cacoa coconut dried cranberrys and coconut oil - at least one sweet treat

Just to feel worry free would be wonderful

Hope you have a good week

Hi Rhonda, i too have lost over 1 stone with my IBS! I'm putting it down to the frequent trips to the loo and guessing our bodies are not storing much!!??

Also stress / worry / depression has not helped as often I get no appetite too! Its a vicious circle but definitely enjoy some treats we all deserve that! Xx

Agree completely I've nearly lost a stone since first getting the semonella. I can't seem to put on weight and yes worry is a killer

Hope you're doing better now however

      Cheers

You only loose weight with ibs from not eating or dehydration if you are having severe d. So I'm afraid the simple answer is you have to eat more.

Eat little and often. If you are having d. Take Imodium.

I'm not sure where you hot your FODMAP info but the ingredients for your snack - cocoa, dried coconut, cranberries and coconut oil are Terrible foods for IBS.

Also sugar is not banned on low FODMAP and neither is fat
