IBS but not always the same symptoms

Hi everyone, I have suffered with IBS for years since my early 30's. It seems as though my symptoms do vary a lot each time. I recently lost my husband and thought I had been coping well but then I had a really very bad attack. I had pain and spasms on my left side which has left my tummy feeling feeling sore and tender. I also nearly fainted, which is worrying being on my own now. My appetite has gone and I'm afraid now whatever I do manage to eat will start the symptoms off again. The thing is, that in the past my flare ups have given me diarrhea/constipation but this time I just had the awful tummy pain on the left, feeling shivery and no appetite. and have put it down to stress and grief, a delayed reaction. I did go to my GP back in 2012 and had a scan which was okay and all she did was give me pills for heartburn! I was just wondering if anyone else just gets the pain with no bowel movements sometimes?

hi sheena, firstly i am so sorry you've lost your husband. secondly, everyone with ibs gets different symptoms. keep a diary of the changes, contact your doctor's and insist on seeing someone decent. your bowel is probably just used to you being stressed. you need to contact a health professional. good luck. oh and explain about your husband's passing, it may explain a great deal if you have had to deal with grief.

Hi Sam, yes thank you. I may have to end up going to the GP, but I don't really see that they can do anything for it, they just send you for lots of tests which quite honestly I cannot cope with at the moment. Also, I live in the country, don't drive and our doctors has moved surgery to even futher away which makes it all the more difficult. I thought I may feel better today but I feel so tired, no energy, everything is an effort and I am bloated AGAIN! Really fed up with it.

hi Sheena, poor you i would see your doctor if you're no better! treat yourself to a day out at the doctor's - to get yourself better. are you stressed about the doctors? that will make you worry and make your bowels worse. good luck whatever you decide to do! ring your doctor's first they may save you a trip.
