    Dear Bianca,

I have the same problem as you IBS with constipation.

My GP immediately gave me Lactulose, I don't know if you have tried it, I think it's horrible. It's very sweet, they call it a double sugar in chenistry so it's OK if you have diabetes. The GP then tried me on Laxido orange which comes in sachets and you mix it with water, I was not too happy with this either so I decided to modify my diet instead. The foods I have to avoid are chocolate, dairy products, red meat, unripe bananas and caffeine.

The foods which relieve constipation for me are rye bread, prunes, pears, beans and kiwi fruit.

I have never tried magnesium citrate tablets so I don't know what the are like. Being completely honest, I don't like taking chemicals which includes prescribed medicine but this is just a personal thing.

I hope my blog is of some use to you.

    Wishing you all the best

In spite of going for magnesium citrate tablet you can use kayamchurn or isabgol. Which are worked as anti-constipation

    Bianca,

Magnesium is a mineral necessary for many bodily functions.  Due to modern agro-business farming methods, there is less and less magnesium in the soil, therefore less in our food.   Most people are deficient in it.   Magnesium citrate is one of the many forms of it.  Magnesium aspartate is another that is thought to be better and more completely absorbed by the body.

The reason it is sometimes recommeded as natrual laxative for constipation is that when your body has absorbed all the magnesium it needs, and you are taking more, it causes a lose stool.

In spite of going for fiber you can go for skimmed milk or Yeast likes milk products as probiotic or prebiotic you can use magnesium citrate.

    Hello bianca,

Remember, be careful with wheat and dairy if you have IBS with constipation. I thought I would be OK with skimmed milk but this is a high FODMAP food just like whole milk. The lactose in skimmed milk contains short chain carbohydrates which are not properly broken down in the small intestine causing water to enter the large intestine which results in bloating and gas. This made my constipation worse.

If you eliminate wheat and dairy your condition will improve as mine has and I take no laxatives at all now.

I find coconut oil is great for this, I have 4g (a teaspoon) every morning in my porridge and it really helps. You can try building it up if you find it isn't doing anything but be warned that if you have too much it becomes too much of a laxative and comes straight back out. Don't let that put you off though, I recommend looking into it, coconut oil is supposedly incredibly healthy for you and claims to have a bunch of health benefits.
