    Hi Peter

IBS is terrible I have suffered badly in the past. I have to say if you have any concerns even if its just anxiety about what .."if what what if " go see your doctor and get some tests. Stage 4 is very advanced I think you would be showing lots of other symptoms by now. Ignore Dr Google and book an appointment to see Doc to at the very least talk it through,,,

Have you ever thought of hemorrhoids?  That can cause blood in your stools.

Don’t read horror stories because it wll cause severe anxiety and IBS flare ups.  IBS does not lead to bowel cancer!  IBS patients often fear this.  I wouldn’t bother checking your stools because this can cause anxiety too.   I have had IBS for three years and I never worry about it because I got a correct diagnosis and I have learned how to manage my anxiety levels. I never check my stools.  Try distraction techniques like your hobbies to take your mind off your bowel and this will help your flare ups to calm down.  Try lots of fruit for constipation and Imodium for diarrhoea.  Try a food diary or the Low Fodmap diet to see if any foods are bothering you.
