IBS.....driving me mad!

About three weeks ago I started with dizziness and heartburn which was very slight, then came the abdominal pain which lasted a couple of seconds. This then went into a dull ache, immediately I was worried it was my appendix and saw my GP who ruled it was a virus even though had some tenderness (locum that I saw). This carried on with all the above symptons which indeed started to go into my back, going to the toilet was a period of constipation and feeling that I still needed to go afterwards. At times I felt like I was straining because I was willing for this horrible feeling and pain to go away....I know not helping.
I have been worrying myself stupid because I suffer health anxiety as well so not god at all. I went back to see my own GP this week and she has definitely ruled my appendix out, and she has confirmed that she thinks it's my bowels and given me Mebeverine but I have health anxiety and worry about taking tablets and side effects....I know I am not helping myself.
My GP has arranged for me to go for a scan to make sure it's not a cyst on my ovary, can anyone give me there experiences and have they suffered anything like this? I know everyone's different but sometimes reassurance is all we need. Also has anyone took primo tic drinks and did they help? Thanks

If you have been diagnosed with IBS by your GP or consultant then the symptoms can be very distressing and I feel sorry for you because I have this condition myself. I am unable to comment about the symptoms of a cyst on an ovary because I am not medically trained.
I can comment on mebeverine because I was initially prescribed this by my GP. I too was concerned about possible side effects and this is what I found.
1) You could be allergic or hypersensitive to mebeverine, this is unusual but needs to be considered.
2) Another side effect is angioedema which is the swelling of deeper layers of the skin caused by build-up of fluid. This seems to affect eyes, lips, genitals, hands and feet.
3) You can get face oedema which is a build-up of fluid in the tissues of the face.
4) Skin rashes are a possibility
5) Urticaria which is another name for hives or nettle rash, raised itchy rash that appears on the skin is another possibility.
However, I did not get any of these side effects with the exception of a dry mouth which seems quite common.
The reason I came off this medication was that it did not work for me. Instead I have been prescribed buscopan which for me works better.
Remember, we are all different and we all respond differently to both medicine and food.
Hope there is something here which helps you in some small way.
Best wishes
robert

I have been taking Mebeverine for some months now. The only side effects I have experienced a slight tummy ache during the first few weeks immediately after taking them half an hour before b'fast on a very empty stomach, and a chemical taste in the mouth if they lingered too long in my mouth.

I was diagnosed with IBS after having an ultrasound that came back clear and a gluten test also clear. I was not convinced however and recently had a CT scan which has revealed an ovarian cyst in my right side. My symptoms are a constant heaviness low right abdomen, but also constipation bloating and gas build up, all in right side of colon.

This is really driving me mad to be honest, pain started in my right side and had heartburn as same time (unsure if this is a coincidence as started at same time). I have been getting what I can explain as very slight dizziness for split seconds, but this may be panic related so really unsure. I have also been experiencing back pain which is also frustrating, so when I went to doctors this week my GP advised about a scan but said it will be about two weeks before I have one.
Could I ask if you pressed onto your site of pain was it tender? This is how mine has been and appendix has been defiantly ruled out. And how are you now Louise and did it go away on it's own or did you have to undergo treatment?

Yes I have had a pain that 'burns' in my lower back right side also. There is pain on pressure and in fact if pressed it can trigger a flare up of symptoms. I also get a feeling of nausea at times. As the ultrasound missed the cyst originally I had been referred to a gastrologist as they thought it was IBS, that's how I ended up having a CT scan that found the cyst, and had a colonoscopy only yesterday, results due 15th Jan. So until that is out the way, and if nothing found they are then going to refer me to gynae I hope to get something done with the cyst I hope! I have been as frustrated and panicky as anything the last year, I first went to the doc in Jan 14 and they have been telling me it's IBS all this time 😁

My apologies for not replying back to you last night, I ended up going to the hospital as the pains where bad. The doctor I saw basically said that other than strong medication there is nothing they can do, until I have the scans which take time. He also said that IBS is not diagnosed until all other things have been ruled out.....it's a last resort thing!
On coming home the dull ache and slight pain is still there, however the pain in my back is the worst....in fact it's like a dull ache as well. It can be both sides in my lower back, going up the centre and into my shoulder /shoulder blades which is annoying.
it really is driving me mad, because your constantly looking for a period for it to stop and to feel normal again. The doctor I saw this evening said it could be fibroids and he has told me to take Buscopan.....which my doctor told me not to take.....so what do you do?
Thanks for everyone's kind replies

Sorry to hear that. I have been to A&E myself twice in the last 6 months it's frustrating. It really wouldn't surprise me if you have a cyst or something your symptoms sound so much like mine. Until your scan take anything that suits you for pain relief, I use ibuprofen, just to get you through the wait. Most of all try not to worry, looking back that has been what I have done and I am sure that made my constipation and bloating worse, I've been much better on that score since I had the cyst confirmed. Good luck with it, have a nice Xmas and New year and let me know how things go x

Could I ask members who have this do they experience heartburn, backache and tenderness when the area is pressed on....not great to do this I know. However when your worrying constantly about this it's very hard.
I know I am driving myself mad with this, but cannot get over how bad this IBS actually is. My tummy feels so bloated I almost look pregnant (which I am not), I just want this to go away or manage it in a better way. My diet is the first thing that needs changes, and does anyone take probiotics with this condition that has helped.
I am really grateful for all the advice it is really appreciated.

I definitely have IBS diagnosed. I get back pain and tenderness on my left side where I assume my my decending colon is located, I get more pain from it , when I lay on the floor on my left side. It gets so bad that I did not like the female GP touching it. I went to her because she is very good with internal pains and lumps.
I told her that I had been for the colonoscopy and CT scan and they could find nothing. Why would she be trying to reduce my medicine list and why would a consultant at the hospital say don't " dont take anymore antibotics " without any explaination?
I also get headaches and my sleep pattern has become very disturbed.
Finally yes, I do find probiotics help, I take probiotic yogurt and advanced ascidophilus plus. I also take L- glutamine which is an amino acid which they can improve the lining in my colon. I have been doing this for several months and I think it has helped me. Without a very specialist medical knowledge the whole thing is so subjective. (suck it and see) I am not telling you to try this, I am just telling you what helps me.
There, you have the full picture. Let me know if I can tell you anything else about my IBS condition. At least I can assure you of an honest answer.
