IBS for years... Has anyone gut any advice to help me manage it better?

Posted , 2 users are following.

I've always suffered tummy issues. I regularly get cramps and diahoreah and have had to cut legumes out of my diet.

I also suffer anxiety which makes IBS symptoms worse and vice versa. So I do take 10mg citalopram for that. But feel like if I could better manage the IBS I'd probably have less anxiety.

What other things can I do to improve my gut?

Diet?

Exercise?

Psychological?

Supplements?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

hi hope, i am replying to you because i read your post and saw the word citalopram, i have ibs, coeliac disease, PTSD, anxiety and depression, i also have other health problems on top. i take no antidepressants and refuse to do so. i think they are a waste of time because all my problems are deep routed in my PTSD (i was raped twice when i was younger).:i am coming towards the end of a tear of counselling, it's been really gruelling at times! it has worked more for me then i thought. i am scared for the future but know some of the tools i can now use to help myself. in terms of my anxiety this is health related mostly, there is a company called lifelinks here who are part of the Richmond fellowship who will definitely help you. they may be called 'wellbeing' therapies this will definitely help you move than pills, try mindfulness which may make you feel more relaxed and try yoga, Pilates etc to help further. good luck - you can find these last 3 online i think.

Wow thank you Sam and I'm sorry you had to experience that and I'm so pleases you've managed to avoid antidepressants. You really are a strong person.

I do mindfulness (although not enough) and definitely think upping my exercise will help so thank you for that. I have done a few CBT group therapies for my anxiety and it has helped, and I plan to come off this medication soon.
