IBS general thoughts

Hello

I have spent hours trying to work out what ibs is all about.

a) What has caused my condition?

b) How can I cure it rather than just keep it at bay?

The experts don't seem to have much idea.

It all started about 3 years ago with pain in my decending colon and then in my groin area. At the same sort of time I became sensitive to coffee, alcohol spicy foods, fats, vinegar and lemon juice.

My GP has given me peppermint oil and Pregablin. Pregablin is good for general neuropathic pain associated with diabetes but much less affective on ibs pain.

ibs does get worse if you are stressed about something.

I have had a Colonoscopy, several X rays and a CT scan and you see absolutely nothing.

If you have any ideas, I would love to hear from you.

Best regards

bob

    IBS...General Thoughts

IBS...in the 50's it was called spastic colon...diagnosed by these symptoms.."only"

frequent wet and dry alternating stools.

IBS..now...any "what might be" colon disturbance that cannot be "identified".

Robert...I have a pretty good understanding of the physiology of the "digestive system" and a tad in Neuro although have spent far more time within this field.

Without a lot of symptom/s info, too difficult to get to first base. Know you are familiar with all of them but forum members do not. Could be helpful.

    specific thoughts:

The clue I grasped from your post is: a pain began on your left side and eventually traveled to the groin area. Did I read you correctly?

From my experience: The sensitivities may or may not be related...

Stress/anxiety from any source can create havoc on any disorder...no exclusions.

Back to clue 1. can you possibly guess with any degree of accuracy if the initial

pain was due to inflammation or nerve? know after 3 years difficult.

Last: Rethinking the possible cause:...Previous to the onset of your initial pain/symptom:

Please rule out food as a source as an initial investigative step.

    within 3 months:

    1. disorders , infections, bacterial/viral etc.

    2. medications, added, changed

    3. trauma, any

    4. other

he said is it inflammation or nerve.

If the hospital consultant and many doctors don't know what chance of I to tell you the answer to you question.

The only disorder I have is type 2 diabetes.

I have taken a whole list of medications over the years, the only good one is metformin for type 2 diabetes.

I have and little or no trauma.

    Thank you Claudio

      Bob,

you could have stated "I don't know or I cannot recall".

Only you know the answer....if you can recall....

      ONSET....

      common or usual...

      INTERNAL

inflammation...from a discomfort to an ache progressing to a hurt/pain...constant....

      nerve

FAST sharp knife like jabs or electrical pings etc...usually

      "intermittant" (excluding gas).

Your GP prescribed an anticonvulsant drug...normally prescribed by neuro's...I consider myself an above average student of Gabapentin, and Pregabalin (same action..same pharma).. due to my keen interest in MND..is infrequently used in ALS for the neuro pains on limb onset...arms...legs.

I may not be of any help to you....My best advice is for you to take the time to read the complete web page of Steve Schakel ....a brilliant Brit living down under who IMO has out done Steven Hawkings....google the name....Claudio
