Diane, I understand how you feel, my frequency is frightful and unexplained, up to 22 times a day some days, it is so bad that I rarely have breakfast and don't eat until about 11.00 or 12.00, this means I eat more in the evenings to compensate which isn't good for my diet, as I am overweight as it is.  Mornings are also worst for me and I have had to adapt as best as I can.  I am currently waiting to see my GP about anti spasmodics, a short course of steroids, which I tried before and were very successful, and something called silicol gel which i have heard is also good, anyway, good luck and best wishes xx

Hi, I'm always the same in the mornings.  I usually have to go as soon as I get up, before breakfast!  It's always urgent and generally very loose too (sorry if that's too much info). I don't know why it's worse in the mornings.  I suffer with anxiety too and I think this makes it worse, I wake up with an anxious feeling.  If I'm going out anywhere, I usually have to go to the toilet first and often while I'm out.  I've got irritable bladder to go with it too!

I hope it helps to share this information, knowing you're not the only one.

Hi Diane Over the past week my symptioms of ibs have got so worse.

I have always been bad in the mornings- can go 6-8 times but since been unwell last week I have new pattern

This morning for the past two hours I have had constant cramps and have been to the loo about 5 times. This then ended with a mad dash to the loo and violent D.

I do understand and know that it is not easy. I guess us all helping each other and understanding more helps the anxiety.

    Dear diane,

I don't think we give our bowel's enough credit. You say you need to go to the toilet after just two spoonfuls of breakfast cereal. If you think about this the food has barely reached your stomach but your bowel knows what's happening and sends a signal to your brain saying you need to go.

What about this then, I obviously don't drink coffee with IBS as it would cause me great discomfort. However, if I smell someones coffee sitting close to me I to immediately need to go to the toilet. I imagine my nose sends a signal to my brain which sends a signal to my bowel which overreacts and sends a signal back saying it's time to visit the toilet. We cannot do anything about it except comply, what a dammed nuisance it is!

It appears to me that our bowels have become too sensitive to all input signals including stress. Our only redress is to take it easy, eat small meals, eat regularly and don't eat late at night. We need to relax more and try not to do things which have caused us flare ups in th past.

Because of the pace of life today it is very difficult to take a step back but it might be better than increasing our discomfort.

    Wishing you all the best

    Robert

I read other people having flare ups. I seem to get it all the time. In the last 2months i would say i have had 1 day that i have felt normal all day. Is anyone else like this? When people say flare ups do they mean they only get symptons every now and again or is it just worse on flare ups? Thankd

Hi Diane,  I also suffered all the time, not only flare-ups.  I took various tablets every day to control the diarhea, all prescribed by the GP.  Then I read on this forum about Coeliac disease and asked my GP for a blood test.  This was positive and I went on to have a Colonoscopy, with the result being that I had Coeliac.  It is now around 14 weeks since I was put on a gluten free diet.  I am quite a bit better as I have come off all medication.  I still visit the toilet 3 - 4 times a day but with not the same urgency, and not so loose.  Still hoping things will improve further as I know it can take quite a while.  It might be worth asking for the Coeliac blood test if you have not already done so.  Very best wishes
