IBS- M

I have IBS -M with not many bowel movements for a few days then an attack of D. Is this happening because of what I eat or because I'm mostly constipated for a few days?

I know diet plays a large role in IBS whether diarrhea or constipation but my doctor also told me that sugar can also play a role. A well balanced diet with mainly fruits and vegetables can help regulate you along with lots of water. He said stay away from things that cause constipation and be sure you get enough roughage every day. Eating small meals and drinking things that contain healthy bacteria (you can find those type drinks with yogurt products. Stress is another cause of these type issues he said.
Hope this helps!

Thank you for your reply! Sugar and stress are my downfall. I always wondered if the constipation lead to the diarrhea or if this is just the nature of this beast!

I have the same issues even though I eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, yogurt and drink lots of water. I also keep a food diary and take a senna tea once a week to keep me going. I imagine this is the way it is with IBS. Just when I think I've figured it out my bowel habits change. Good luck.

Same with me! I guess it is more than we can control as the gut has its own agenda.

Have you tried eating lentils. I recently starting cooking with them and the next day I have immediate relief......same thing with some yogurt before bed.

Try a food diary to see if any foods trigger constipation or diarrhoea. It is also possible to have fecal impaction after not going much for a few days. When this happens diarrhoea follows after a period of constipation.
