IBS? Need feedback.

I'm wondering if any of you suffering with IBS suffer with what I've been dealing with the last few months.

I think I'm dealing with constipation altough my poo is soft and not hard.  There is a lot of straining and I never feel like I'm finished.  Ever.  My poo is usually pretty small and narrow but sometimes they are larger followed by small poo and then again never feels finished.

The worst is the feeling that I have a golf ball up my bum.   Pretty gassy as well all day.

sound like typical ibs?

Thanks,

Karen

Yes agree with Philippa if not seen doctors do so to check everything OK, immediate fear I had was cancer but docs said it wasnt and there are lots of other things that cause these symptoms that are amenable to treatment.  In the end they ruled everything out and concluded  it was IBS.

One thought though re constipation and soft poo.  That may actually be to do with your pelvic floor muscles having become weak which can happen for any number of reasons including child birth, bladder infections , constipation etc.  There are excercies you can do if you google it, or referral to physion who specialises in pelvic area helpful though not many of them about on the NHS.  Can provide more detail if you need it

It sounds like inflammation of the colon. You can address these symptoms with exercise, lots of water, low stress, good sleep, no processed foods, no transfats, cut back on sugar and white flour, white rice, and take a probiotic for the intestinal/immune system - there's a brand you can get that doesn't need refrigeration - it's once a day on an empty stomach. No GMO, gluten, fish or peanuts to worry about. Also, try Slippery Elm capsules (helps with the poop) or Psyllium Husk -which is great for reducing cholesterol too - it binds to fatty acids and reduces glucose. It's a top fiber for your system and will help clean out your colon. Great for pooping.  Our bodies are used to movement and we sit a lot and eat foods/drink drinks that aren't the best for us and we have a lot of stress - so it all builds up  -  our system backs up like plumbing and gets clogged and inflammed. Any kind of anti-inflammatory is great - turmeric is excellent - Google the kinds of foods/ anti-inflammation diets etc. and see if it doesn't help. It takes a while.

I'm currently going through the ramifications of having taken glucosamine as suggested by my Dr. for joint aches - as it turns out, I'm allergic to shellfish which is what glucoasmine is made of. It messed up my bowels and I'm having IBS for a few months now. So, I just recently started on the above things - even taking a hot bath, doing meditation (just sit and let your thoughts go and relax your muscles and your mind).

Regular doctors tend to give medications that can be harmful with side effects. I was diagnosed with it in the 80s. I didn't go back to the Dr after the diagnosis, I just took care of it on my own.

My son had ulcerative colitis for 15 yrs - so severe that the Dr wanted to remove about half his colon. But, he decided to take care of it on his own instead of surgery and meds - he changed his diet - he lift weights and is active - (he's a father of two little ones), and does all the cooking for his family. He used to have to get a colonoscopy every  6 months - but once he took charge, it improved to the point that he didn't have to get them every 6 months. His Dr was surprised that he didn't even need his meds anymore.  But it took him about a year to heal his body and he focused on getting rid of the inflammation.

Lots of good info. I've been taking a probiotic and tumeric. I'm trying no dairy and no sugar but I should really cut out gluten. Thanks for everything.

I appreciate at the prayers. Same to you. It is awful if this is what it is. I always thought ibs was a mild issue. Guess not.

Yes, I frequently feel like I am never finished.  One problem women may have is that when in childbirth they had an episiotomy which may have cut into the anal sphincter muscle, and when you get older. it does not function like when you were younger. It can cause leaking of oozing without even being aware, another catrastropoe.  Does anyone experience this?

Yes and I am non female. I would not go as far as to say male smile

A few times I have noticed a slight leak, ever so minor but that is all it takes. I remember at a previous company spraying my trousers with hand wash and soaking them under the tap due to fear of smell.

This is just awful when this happens.

I think this is ibs. Have you tried Colpermin? You can get them on prescription.

    Hope this helps.

    Keep in touch

I am like that occasionally but try to drink mucho water to avoid straining. Golf ball could be haemorrhoids as that is what this nonsense can do to you.  I would visit your doc to get the checks for bloods, colonoscopy, endoscopy, h pylori. I have had these a few times and best to be safe I find.

Sometimes I am gassy to the point of sounding like a euphonium and other days zero gas but I move through periods of constipation and running like the wind to find the nearest loo. No pun intended.
