ibs or crohns? need advice please!

Long story short, I have all the symptoms for crohns disease but my gp insists I only have IBS. The IBS medication he gives me never works and now my symptoms seem to be getting worse, losing about 1-2 pounds a day, lost about 11 pounds in a week! Constantly having diarrhea even if I haven't ate and hardly any appetite and always feeling tired even if I have just woke up from a sleep. The abdominal pain is ridiculously sore as well, booked another appointment to see him but would like to know what people thought and if there is any significant differences with IBS and crohns. Really feel I'm going round in circles and can't get straight answers! I'm only 19 and its taking a massive affect on my life everyday.

    Big hugs to you!

I have had this for 2 years now and are pretty much now housebound. I'm only 22 so I know how you feel. sad

Have you had colonoscopies? Or been tested for anything?

I have a constant side pains which gets so severe I'm double over sobbing. Can't believe how much weight you're losing though! Surely that's not good T all! sad I've lost nearly 2 stone and just slowly but surely managing to put it back on.

Have you found any safe foods or are you just eating anything?

Hope you're okay! It's so worrying when you have all the symptoms. I'm still positive I have ibd too. Try not to worry about it, I know that's easier said than done but the less you google things and try to just put those diseases out of your mind it helps you a little bit.

    Are you on any medication?

    Sending my love!!

I had a colonoscope last October and everything came back normal but its getting worse and I just feel something isn't right. I avoid diary and caffeine drinks, sometimes I need to go a day without eating because how nauseous I am etc. I have medication for IBS but it doesn't work, try so many meds now, very frustrating! Thanks hopefully get some answers and start to feel a tad human again lol!

That's ashame, I know how you feel, it really does have a massive impact on life. Hope you get to the bottom of it aswell

Keep at them to put you in for more tests.

That's the same here. Dairy is a nightmare! Have you been tested for coeliacs?

Always feel sad when hear there's others going through the same.

Haha amen to that! Keep us updated though on whatever happens! smile

Don't guess and don't rely on your GP. My experience with GPs is that they never get the big calls right - my Proctitis was diagnosed as Piles; when I had Meningitis I was told I had the flu and my wife's cancer was just put down to a problem pregnancy.

    Insist on seeing a specialist.

Sorry to hear. Unfortunately a lot of us IBSers are labelled IBS and sometimes its not certain. Best thing to do at this point is track what you eat. Your weight. Your stool/bowel movements and see a GI specialist. You will need a colonoscopy and endoscopy maybe. Hopefully they don't find anything but at this point its necessary.

Im in EXACTLY the same boat. My specialist diagnosed me after my colonoscopy as "symptoms relate to IBS although she may have mild inflammatory bowel disease " they found some tiny ulcers in the ileum but negative biopsy.

Its better to have severe IBS than mild crohn's because ibs doesn't destroy your gut like crohn's does. IBS has a lot of physical and emotional strains on ppl but its still better to have than crohn's. My fingers are crossed for us

l think you should see your doc asap, and if he does nothing ask to see gi, that sounds a lot of weight to lose in a week, be it for obvious reasons, l know ibs varies in severity and symptoms a bit for different people, but your symptoms sound very severe. l do know people with Crohns and they do become very ill. Even if you cant eat try to drink as much as possible, to replace fluids lost, or you could become dehydrate

l know what you mean about feeling tired from getting up, l do, terrible way to feel, l also have little appetite, frequent debilitating nausea, and generally feel unwell, and have lost about a stone but thats over a few months.  My scope show a bit of tum inflammation, ppi  meds given, supplaments, lactose free, still it goes on, just had kidney bladder scan, small cyst also, but not relavent apparently, so it goes on, l agree its best to insist on specialist, l spent years suffering pain and poor health, put down to gyny, hormone,s, phycalogical, finally referral to urologist who took 5min scope to diagnose intersticial cystitus, inflammation of the bladder.   These inflammatory conditions arent looked on as alarming as other diseased, but can cause a lot of pain debility. So make sure you drink plenty over weekend, see doc monday, l,m sure he should respond to such  rapid weight loss, if not ask for urgent referral.

It must be playing havoc on your life, Good luck.

Your symptoms sound extremely similar to mine. I'm 23. My GP latest suggestion is IBS from my stool pattern but I just don't know - just about to start taking peppermint oil. I have had a CT scan, gastroscopy and barium meal - all show nothing. I even had to spend 2 nights in hospital when the pain and vomiting was so bad. Good luck with getting a correct diagnosis - that is what is most important to me at the moment!
